• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX:SE Help requested to remove inactive switches from the FSX default 737 VC

Hi all,

I've learned a great deal in the last month or two as I've tried to squash what bugs I can in the default 737. These include correcting the reversed Cross Feed switch (VC), getting the auto-brake knob working (VC), correcting the VC Engine Starters so they work as they should and creating a gauge so that fuel drains from the center tank first when the Fuel Pumps are selected.

All good fun. Like Alice, I've tumbled down the rabbit hole.

I've done all the above VC enhancements by editing the interior.x file as I have absolutely no skill in 3d modelling software. And really, I've now come about as far as I can without needing 3d modelling skills.

What I would like to do is to collaborate with anybody who is interested in order to break the stationery switches and remove them from the default FSX 737. With them out of the way, I'm reasonably confident I can reproduce existing active switches to take their place, thereby adding the potential for a new level of sophistication to this aircraft.

I realise the FSX default 737 is a crippled crappy aircraft - I've been told numerous times. The way I see it though is that it provides a fun platform for learning, which I'm really enjoying. At this point in time I'm enjoying this sort of learning and tinkering more than the flying.

So, I know it's a long shot but if anyone with 3d modelling skills is inclined to help me in this project, please get in touch with me. I'd really appreciate it.

I'd also like to make clear that all the work I've done in editing Microsoft's aircraft is for purely for my own personal reasons. I have no intention of widely distributing my edited aircraft, nor profiting from it. It's purely a pet project for the sake of learning.

I realise the idea of editing the work of others is a sensitive area which many will disagree with. I respect that. I have no intention of starting such a debate here however.

Thanks everyone,

Trent

The default models were intended specifically as learning tools and improving them is no more intrusive than improving JFK airport.

Considering the general lack of available manpower with the skills you're looking for, there'll be no way around a modeling tool for you. Money might be a good motivator for potential volunteers, but if you're willing to go that far, you might want to invest into a payware 737 in the first place.

I recommend Blender since it's free.

Hello Trent,

Its a massive amount of work. You would need to;
1. Bring the model into a 3d program, such as Blender or Max
2. Delete the button objects of choice
3. Probably doctor up the graphics in Gimp (free) or Photoshop
4. Re-animate 'all' (all) of the parts that are animated
5. Re-export back into FS

Probably talking quite a few man hours...

I believe the above poster, Heretic, did this with the Douglas prop airliner. He would know.

Why not get a freeware custom 747, or perhaps a nice payware 747? You would own it right now, today, no waiting.

It is a ton of work. All the animations in the plane have to be redone when you bring it into Max or Blender. Imagine all the flaps that have to be re-animated. The landing gear, rudder, elevators, etc, etc, etc.

Now.... Lets say, you want to do this. You want to tear down a model and do some cool customizations... Why not really do a cool job and get all those switches working. You could learn about custom animations, do logic systems, etc, etc. Imagine it... But its a large undertaking. One day at a time thing, or you pass out thinking about all that needs to be done.

Sort of similar to a person that wants to overhaul his engine and has never got his hands dirty with one, never changed the oil on an engine. You would be climbing a massive mountain.
