• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Help? Stuck in a pickle

Hello All,

I know what I'm about is probably really easy to fix, but my brain is tired and I need some help. I have photo real textures over laying the ground. As you can see in the screenshot, the default fsx terrain does not have accurate coastlines. What I want to do is outline the water in a google earth poly then import to FSX KML, eventualy overlaying the fsx showing land with water. From here, what tags do I need to add to it and in what order? I know that I'll probably need some exclusion tags as well as hydro polys. If someone could help me out and let me know the easiest way I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

Easiest way? I would say SBuilderX, but that's me :) Been a long time since I played with FSX_kml, but you want an exclusion poly for water bodies, {956A42AD-EC8A-41BE-B7CB-C68B5FF1727E}, then add your replacement water polys (hydro generic ocean)set to alt 0 {2D103429-89EB-4CB3-A61E-E188E79C77E7}

I am trying to get rid of the default land and turn it into water. Exlcuding the water then making new water would still mean that the default land is still there.

Well, if all it takes is turning land into water, that can be done just by adding hydro polys. But more typical is that in places land has to be turned to water, and in others water into land. Your photo will show the land, but the flatten effect of the water will remain. If you want to restore the mesh elevations where default water exists, you need to exclude those default hydro polygons. That's why I recommend excluding the default hydro polys and then placing new hydro polys along the correct shoreline.
