• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What is the right way to make 'holes /cut outs' without using the Boolean method?
Thank you.

Hi cattz

Have a look at ‘ How to build a Stone Arch’ Tutorial and just close it in instead of leaving to bottom open to make a smother looking hole just add more cubes.

It just occurred to me that you may be working on an aircraft in that case I think the Boolean tool may be best, I was thinking a hole in the wall of a building as scenery is all I do.

Thanks Farfy, that's fine if starting from scratch but if you have, say, a box 20 x 20 x 5 and want to put a whole through it?

In Editable Poly, edge or poly sub-object, use Cut to make the shape of the hole in your existing mesh, then delete the poly(s) over the hole shape.

Oh nuts, got my Gmax head on: sorry.

If you can'nt rebuild it then I think Boolean is the only solution, BUT you will end up with a very hi number of polygons.

But for about 5 min work here is a 20x20x5 box with a hole.

I can make a tutorial, but it’s really not that complicated.
If you use skype I can show you how in a few min.

No, I don't use skype.
I'm sure there are a lot of beginners who would like a 'step by step' especially as it's 'not complicated':D

cattz- skype is free. - use it.
Farfy can show you the answer to your question in minutes! Highly worth it!

With skype I've taught some people how to do photoreal in less than 20 minutes.

I wish someone would show me how to do volumetric grass on skype. Best step by step tool around.... skype.

I can do the v grass thing but I get a spray look to it. Bob

Tuts are still nice :)

tutorials? Of course, but sometimes they start off assuming you are a brain surgeon like they are! Hahahaha! Terms used are sometimes over our heads. But - yes- tutorials have been a great help throughout the years. Bob
