• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

House rows with Autogen

Hi,

I am not having any luck placing rows of houses with the FS2004 SDK autogen annotator.

They appear to be elongated buildings rather than houses and they are not correctly placed.

Please check out the screenshots below:

Shown in the annotator:

In FS9:

I followed the SDK tutorial so it should be OK but it obviously isn't working.

Thanks,
KObbe

The row house function in the annotater is actually for row houses, like the brownstones you see in pictures of urban DC or NYC. All are connected...like a row of apartments.

I haven't found a way of limiting the other categories to insert just random houses. If you find out how, please let everyone know.

Jim,

Thanks for the info. I guess that could explain the elongated buildings. :)

But, the urban house objects from "Library" are not showing up and other objects are not positioned correctly.

Here's a couple more shots.

Art Martin's Autogen Editor gives a couple of useful tools here --
'define multiple house(s) inside an angled rectangle'; and
'define multiple houses along a freehand line'.
Both tools can generate random house sizes.

I would try that program, but its not available anywhere evidently.

Can't find it through google search, avsim, or flightsim.com.

Where can I download it?

Thanks,
kobbe

yep searched that and discovered from that information that

there is no "autogen.zip" at Avsim and whenever I try to download it from FSplanet I get taken to a spanish website that locks up my computer.

Well I tried it out and it worked great.. except for one recurring problem that has happened with the others..

the autogen is misplaced by a few miles:

Any idea on what is going on here?

Thanks :)

Are you sure you are using the same bitmaps in autogen tools and in the sim?

It looks like your photo tiles were done with Sbuilder. If so, use AGenT to do your autogen. It has an option to automatically flip the tiles (under Preferences). If you use another editor, you'll need to manually flip the tiles, draw your autogen, and manually flip them back.

Thanks KJB!

I got them to appear in the right spot.

But as if there was such a word like "easy" in the FS world then I probably wouldn't be here.. but since there isn't.. this is my ordeal now:

Only 15% of the autogen shows up with complexity and density sliders set to max in FS9. In this example only a few rows show up out of about 7 or 10:

Thanks again :)

It sounds like you're exceeding what FS9 will show. If you're using AGenT, the status bar at the bottom right corner will show the number of objects and it turns red when you have too many (300 houses). If you use the randomize function it can randomize the order, then delete to limits. Otherwise, the first 300 buildings you put down will show.

Oh, you're right. One of the areas has 500. LOL

The area in the screenshot has 156, though.

Darn.. a little bit of experimenting + trial and error= scenery design with FS :D
