• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

You generally do not "create" a new air file, but rather use an existing *.air file and modify it. For all practical purposes, all *.air files started off as one of the default aircraft *.air files at one time or another.

Meanings in Air file

Is there documentation on the veriables in the AIR file? If so, where can I download it? or do I try a change, then test fly it????

I want to try to create a sci-fi type aircraft based upon the "Death Glider" from Stargate SG1, including hypersonic speeds, the ability to turn laminar airflow off, and that sort of thing....

The *.air file and variables therein have never been officially documented. For all practical purposes, any documentation has been user-community generated.

I will presume that you are aware that flight dynamics are a combination of the variables in the air file and the aircraft.cfg file (which in many cases overrides the air file equivalent, but in somes cases the aircraft.cfg variables is for "show").

My "first stop" site for studies in the Occult Art of Flight Dynamics is avhistory, (avhistory.org) and Jerry Beckwith's mudpond.org

In the end, however, you will not avoid tweaking and testing your changes. Reading up just makes the tweaks less of a wild guess!

Good Luck!

:)

Sorry for hijackking this thread, but im trying to do my own first model, and im at the stage where i need to create an .AIR file for it, or as you've said, edit an already exisitng one.. but how do i edit such a file?

Hi
If you have FS9 you can use the airfiles and aircraft.cfg from the template folder (fs9/aircraft/template)
This site has links and info that will help get you started
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/hsors/index.html
I use AirEd mainly its on all the major sim sites.
I also use AAM the author sites gone bye bye,but you can get a copy here (also grab the update ini file)
http://www.fsdossier.info/aam_ini.htm

and last but not least is Airwrench

Which is a cheapware (payware thats cheap :) )
