• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How does this happen?

River Angara:
R_Angara-Siberia.jpg

In Siberia, I've been looking around this area, up to the place where the meteorite struck in 1908 near the River Tunguska- known as the Tunguska Event.

But what has happened to that river, the river seems to have coastlines further west, but not water.
Was this scenery hurried on a Friday afternoon in Microsoft?

Extreme Virtual Global Warming has dried up the area....

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Maybe the Tunguska blast is responsible? :)

I've seen add-ons like UTX cause problems like that, but if you're sure you don't have an add-on doing that, then yes, it's likely that this spot missed a hydro poly.

Top-down view (F12) will tell you more.

It wouldn't be the first spot in the FS World that had something missing. In FSX RTM, the airport MNBL had it's flatten 3 miles out to sea. Also MGTK and MZBZ had trees growing on the runways (missed their exclusion polys).

Hi EssieP.

All the world's scenery is quite an undertaking. The Aces crew had limited time and manpower to double-check all the world's terrain... so in a way, you're right.

As far as the Beta testers, they were much more concerned with the basics working than with the actual content of the sim.

If all the FS scenery were perfect, there would be no need to design anything for it. The terrain creation process is much improved for FSX.

My suspicion is that the hydro poly is present but set as a non-perennial river,

In a recent thread that asked in what proportion do we fly or develop in this sim, I voted for 60% Dev & 40% flying. What often happens is that while flying around, I spot something that needs doing and get on with it. Screenshots like this are taken so I can look up in Google-Earth.

I hope my opening post didn't seem grumbling- that wasn't my intention, more that I was bemused by this scene.

Siberian Russia is ripe for scenery design though doing rivers takes a while because they are all so long in this area. :o

I saw a similar problem with Rhode Island in FS2004. Turned out that there was some add on files for an area quite remote from Rhode Island that was causing the problem.

I've spotted another at the end of the R Lena in Siberia. The river cuts off in teh same way just where the large delta should start. Mind you, I can just picture the job of drawing out that river,m with the odd island here and there, then arriving at the north coast and suddenly- hundreds of riverlets fanningout across the delta.

Would anyone mind having a look at these locations to see if it is repeatable?

Hi EsieP.

You only need to use TMFViewer from the FSX SDK to check those scenery areas.
It tells you everything you need to know about what is wrong.

Well, I have absolutely no added scenery within 10,000 km, and this is what I see from above - which suggests that this is something which is a scenery defect in the original sim. I'd be interested if it was the same in FS9, because if so, it has to be a very obscure area, as I have not heard of any one else finding it! Well spotted!

How do you find which bgl to open with TMFviewer?

There is something appealing about exploring those very low population, desolate areas; it's almost like being at sea with no sight of land.

Well, there is no point grumbling about things we can fix. I've uploaded scenery fix files onto AVSim.

My only regret is that I forgot to credit FSX-KML.:tapedshut

I've just had a blond moment when testing some scenery I'm working on- None of the water areas were showing when my scenery was activated and I couldnt figure out why.

Turns out I had forgotten to compile with -addtocells on one of my bgls which was of course blocking everything under it. Not that this was the case here, but I thought I'd add it for future thread searches.
