• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to add a light object which doesn't reflect in nearby water - (half) SOLVED by myself

I have added lighting (light_warm object) to my bridge which lights of the deck of my bridge nicely however every light object (there are many as the bridge is 300 meters long) results in reflections on the water which don't look good IMHO.
I checked Sydney Harbour Bridge (part of WU7) which shows lighting but no reflections in the water.
I cannot see any parameters to control this.
Is it possible to prevent reflections of lighting objects? I realise that the height (elevation) of a light can affect this but it also restricts the spread of the light which would requite heaps more light objects.

An example of reflections from lights - I just thought that the reflections doesn't look realistic

I thought that back in the days of FSX it was possible to add 'highway' lights to illuminate a road/highway surface which was different to a 'spotlight'?

Also nearby lighting along the edges of the lake (from the MSFS stock scenery) does not show reflections so surely there is a method to illuminate an area without gettin g reflections.

After trying adding many light 'point' to my Blender model and finding that not only were the reflections still present AND the light also displayed below the bridge (totally unrealistic) I decided to look through every scenery object which has 'light' in its name and found EDVK-StreetLightHalf which not only illuminates the deck of my bridge nicely AND it appears to only show reflections from one 'side' of the light so at least I will now only have half the reflections (there are lights on each side of the bridge offset from other side) and it also 'shines' on the bridge deck in a half circle which is very realistic as to how a street light mounted on the edge of a bridge looks IMHO. All I need to have now is that EDVK lights are not from stock MSFS scenery objects.

Maybe no one else has used this so there's a tip!

DRAT. Just noticed the street light also 'draws' an image of a light pole and so needs to be at 'ground level' (otherwise it will 'float' in the air) which reduces the spread of the light too much. Back to the drawing board as they say.
