• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to Update an Airport

Hi, I want to learn how to update an airport that's in my location. The airport is Birmingham's Shuttleworth International, and the ICAO is KBHM. The new A concourse has been added and the C Concourse has been widened and gates added. How do I go about making these changes using the ADE? The airport AFCAD contained in the scenery file is dated 2008 and would like to update it to 2015 with the new terminals? Also, is it better to start from scratch or do I just use the old AFCAD and make the updates using the ADE? I also wanted to ask if there is a template of some sort that can be used along with ADE to make these changes accurate using Google Earth and if so, how do I go about getting that? The reason I ask is because I've noticed that some developers use Google Earth to design these airport files.

Best way to make a template is to take a screenshot of the airport from google maps (or several more zoomed in), tile them and then crop the image.

Then use google maps by right clicking and selecting "what's here" to define the north, east, south and west extents of the image.

Then open up ADE, right click, select "add image" and open the image and enter the edge coordinates in.

Then use this as the template to update the airport.

Hi Shaun,
I have a few questions to ask. What do you mean when you say "tile them and then crop the image" and also what do you mean when you say "then open up ADE, right click, select "add image" and open the image and enter the edge coordinates in." I've tried these and it's not doing what you're saying.

Well, it's probably got the wrong coordinates.

You can use SBuilderX to make a photoscenery, or take screenshots of google maps/earth and paste them as a mosaic into one image. If you zoom in, you can't get the whole airport in one shot, so have to take many.
