• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 increase available speed in my plane

How can I increase the available speed of my plane. I assume this would be done in aircraft.cfg

Speed is determined by the vector math of drag vs thrust vs lift vs mass.
You sound like Sister Bertrille, 'When lift plus thrust is greater than load plus drag, anything can fly.”

hahaha. I do know that. They say bees can't fly but they do. If you flap hard enough with barn doors you can fly. I merely asked if there were a way to altar the cfg file of a plane for increased speed. NOT if it can fly or not. but I do thank you for your sass in replying to a simple request.
Lift, gravity, thrust, drag... properties of flight.

You need to reduce parasitic drag (Cd0) in the .air file to increase the airspeed. This is assuming everything else (thrust levels, etc) are correct.

Thank you but then... can't open air files. hahaha but what the hell. ;)

WarpD is correct, but there is another way to reduce parasitic drag.
The Aircraft.cfg file should have a [flight_tuning] section. Ideally, parasite_drag_scalar = 1.0000. If you want to go faster make this less than 1.000, save the file and air test it. You will find this quicker if you document your results.

Thank you both for the help. Fastest I could go previously was 209 knots Now I can do 240 knots and more. I change the drag to ,5. Again, thanks so much.

One problem. When I first flew with my group, my plane when very fast. After that first flight with parasitic drag reduced... suddenly p3d.4 would CTD. when I was logging my flight. After this when I flew my own flights sometimes my plane wold CTD, correcting the scalar back to 1.0 it would fly fine. I wonder if I got someone mad at me so they put a no-fly at our virtual airline when I used that plane. OR, could it be the I need to 'repair' P3d 4.4?

the Kodiak but this will happen with the Beech Baron; but with the Beech ... if I keep it within the yellow speed zone it seems to behave. Not sure need further testing.
