• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Island

Nice island! Heart Island is better than Skull Island.

Is that using the 'PolygonHole' id?

Yes... polygonhole tag... but in 1.03 its not working... im still fixing some issues in 1.04 but it wont be long until i'm done and then ill upload.

Hi All
Newbie here.
I am trying to make an island in the bay around Courtenay BC which is approx midway up the east coast of Vancouver Island BC Canada (CAH3). I am using FSX KML 105 latest version. I have read and reread numerous times
the posts in this thread, but I am having difficulty achieving success.

I guess I can't see the forest for the trees.:(

My problem lies in removing the hydro/water poly for the island.

Attached in a zipfile are screenshots of the FSX KML project selection, FSX KML build results, FSX display and a folder with the bgl's, .shp, .dbf files.

I read MatthewS instuctions in the manual for creating island in rivers and see
the posts of the square lake with the heart shaped island, but I am unable to figure out how to get rid of the water in the middle of the Island.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Hi,

You are trying to make a hole in a polygon that you have not drawn. You will have to draw the hydro poly first, then place the hole poly after that (in FSXKml). Then you will face the problem that a hydro poly of whatever size will exclude the whole QMID11 cell hydro poly (changing it into land). So I suggest the following work flow:

1.Identify the vector features, using TMFViewer. Find the folder/cvx-file and open the file (in your case folder 0101, file cvx1414). Right click on the relevant vector feature and read the GUID. Find the corresponding tags in FSXKml (the tags tab). It seems that the hydro polys are of the type “Hydro_Polygons_Generic_Ocean_Perennial”, so that's the one you should exclude/replace.
2.Draw a hydro poly covering the whole bay right to the eastern border of the cell (-124.921875 I think).
3.Since you will not be able to draw precisely along the present shoreline using Google, copy the poly and change the copy into a new shoreline by deleting the part you do not need and adding some more. (If you end up with waves on the wrong side, reverse the drawing order using the new feature in FSXKml).
4.Make a another poly to exclude the present shoreline (it may be of any size and shape as long as it covers the shoreline (and no other shoreline).
5.Put it all (together with the rest) into one kml file – this can be done using drag and drop in the Google explorer window.
6.Now open in FSXKml and put in the right order. The hydro poly should be followed immediately by the hole poly. And the shoreline exclude should come before the new shoreline.
7.Tag – I would suggest using the default tags that you have identified in the viewer.
8.Compile and enjoy – note that you have one, and only one, cvx-file. Shp2Vec has seen to the priorities within that file so that's all you need.
