• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

KSC launchpad problem

Hi everyone!

I've always been annoyed by the lack of attention/detail found in Florida...(Daytona Beach is my hometown, tho I'm not there now). The Daytona Beach International Speedway, for example; is represented as a very odd "D" shaped street/road sitting at the NW corner of KDAB. So thought I'd take a stab at it!

Am trying to do photo scenery (struggling to learn how would be more accurate!) of the spacecenter area (would like to do the coast from just north of St. Augustine to just below the Cocoa area...inland to just west of I-95). I've finally achieved a small area at LOD 18 that contains the launchpad with the shuttle sitting on it...problem is it's size & position (compass wise). I'd guess it's about twice the size for the scenery...and it needs to be rotated a bit, too. How do I achieve this?

I still need to tackle water/blend masks, but; one mountain at a time! lol...after creating much larger, but unsatisfactory bgl's I decided to hone my skills on one small section and then expand my efforts. Am using SBuilderX at this point...have dl'd other programs to do this but haven't tried to use them yet.

I'm going to try uploading a couple of screenshots (I've circled the ends of the 2 'arms' of the launchpad and also the photo version of it, showing where they should be)...there's another launchpad just north of this one and the VAB, both are too big and out of position...these 3 items are controlled by the complexity slider, not the autogen. Any helpful suggestions?

Thanks,
Vance

Hey Lance,

Small 'cause I've already wasted many hours scanning back & forth at zoom 18 only to have the program go into 'error mode' due to file size when trying to either 'add map' or 'compile'. This meant frequently and repeatedly closing the program and restarting it...and if the oversize 'map' had been added to the shp file, it would restart with the 'map view has been turned off' error...thus having to restart yet again after editing the sbx file to remove the reference to the offending map. Also, when it did compile it didn't give me the 18, only 17! My experiments with watermasks have had mixed results, too. Better to confine the efforts to the small area seen in the screenies until I get a handle on it, then apply techniques that work to the larger area I'd like to cover. At one point, I had 12 bgl's covering a fair sized area here...file sizes weren't bad, but upon trying to turn them into a single bgl the file size became over 1.3 gigs!...and took around 20 hours to compile using the multiple source inf technique...not sure what I did wrong in the inf file, but no point chasing that rabbit anymore until I refine results on a small area.

Thanks, I'll have a look at the OBX files; I'm sure they're a combo...setting 'complexity' to 'scarce' removes them and they're all 3 different...the other launchpad lacks a space shuttle sitting on it. Where will I find the related XML files for them?

Edit...ok, how do I get into the obx files in the first place?...and then what?...lol, this is going to be a long (series of ) night(s)!!

Thanks for the fast reply!
Vance
