• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Landable Surfaces In FSDS2

Hi Graham,

Just been having a go at using afcad for my landable deck. No Joy with it, I've created a new airfield, and inserted the taxi links but I'm not able to adjust the altitude on the nodes.

*EDIT* I've just got it to work, the only thing now is that the water ridges up......lol - how do I work arround this?

Cheers

OK, lets take this slowly.

First, you don't need to alter the altitude of the nodes. If the water has risen......LOL that suggests your deck level afcad is at least probably working....LOL

Now the difficult bit, settling the sea around the carrier back down to its proper level. You need a second afcad with an apron link as before but this time at sea level, the link should be around 1800 ft long, use a temporary runway to get the length, and around 1000 ft in width. Once you have the apron link settled, centred on your flightdeck, then delete the runway and save the afcad as a new airport with another new ICAO code, (if you have used AB01 for the flightdeck then use AB02 for the sea level one for example). Make sure it is at sea level. Now that second, sea level afcad needs to be moved to a NEW folder. Make a folder in the Addon Scenery folder and call it Top Level. Inside that folder make another new folder called scenery. Put your sea level afcad into that scenery folder. Start FS and go to the scenery library. Activate the Addon scenery/Top Level folder and keep it at the top of the list shown within FS scenery library. If you make any other carriers then put the sea level afcad into this same folder. If you install any more scenery just move it in the library below this folder, keep it at the top and you will never have sea level problems with your carriers.

I hope that is all clear, if not please come back to me and I'll help you sort it out.

Hi Graham,

I'll give it a try mate, Just need to get the time to do it now, I'll let you know how I get on with it;)

Just take your time, I know it works, I have more carriers than places to put them.....LOL

Thanks for your input on this matter, I've now imported one of the ships (hms ocean) into Gmax, added the attachtool script for a hard surface, removed the crashboxes, exported the .mdl and added it to FS2004

Hi Guy's just been having a go at the attach tool in Gmax & got it sorted:)

I'm going to go down the same route as Alan McGaughey, so I was wondering if you Guy's can tell me where I can get hold of a CVA Converter:scratchch

Cheers,

Hi Dyl,

Glad to hear you've cracked it mate, I just sat down with a couple of tutorials and to be honest I wish I'd done it ages ago, I'm no expert though and box mapping is the only texturing I've done so far on a simple building so I don't know what's to come when I start to texture a ship :yikes:

I'd say from my limited experience that Gmax is the bees knees, but even simple box mapping on a simple building takes much longer than FSDS3 (maybe just because I'm used to it) so I'll stick with FSDS3 for turning out most stuff and use Gmax for anything that needs attachments.

Which ships are you building Dyl ?

Hi Alan,

I'm working on a fictional Carrier at the moment, just something to get me into other projects with Gmax:)

I built 70% of my carrier in FSDS3, but now I have the converter, I've imported it into gmax & got the solid deck working!!

Hi, Dyl, I got my CVA converter at: http://www.flightsim.cz/fsitem.php?act=exe&id=59&lan=1 The one I have is a couple of years old but I believe it is the latest one.

Hi Paul,

Thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction to get the converter.

Very much appreciated;)
