• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Library blues in SAMM

Ok I have a few things I need an expert to look at... Here they are:

No acceptance of planes from FSX to SAMM Library.
Were is the Library Folder for SAMM?
What's a \params.data
why is it FS9 checkable not FSX in models box in SAMM Make Object Library
Are the c130's and Chinnok's for FSX static?
Manual is not referred to FSX or is it
Admin privileges?
Example from x:\Aircraft\C-130H\model folder, texture.xxx folder, aircraft. cfg. is not possible to rewrite.

Im trying with SAMM to make static military planes for local airports and the SAMM library is not listing the planes to work with Addon scenery folders from FSX or Simviation downloads.

I appreciate any help on this matter!

Thank you very much!

-Rich

Rich, its difficult to tell from your post what problems you are experiencing.

As well, when you ask questions like:
Were is the Library Folder for SAMM?
I have to wonder just how hard you've tried to solve these problems yourself. SAMM's Library folder is the folder named Libraries just under SAMM!

Are the c130's and Chinnok's for FSX static?
What C130 and Chinook?

I think if you spend a little time reading the manual with an open mind you'll better understand the operation of SAMM, which is, simply:
  • pick an aircraft
  • select the static model characteristics
  • save the static model and place the static model - either directly or via a library.

If, after doing that, you still have problems, post back and tell me what is the problem you are experiencing (what version you are using, what you entered where, what you see as a result and why you think it's wrong) and I'll try to help.

Hurry reply back

Thank you very much Don for the reply I tryed to make it simpler for you to answer. Are you just playing with a program
that copys quotes so i keep trying SAMM?
Sorry for incomplete sentence fragments.I didn't care about the questions which are my results.:D
My questions were not coded after weeks Ive been trying to solve SAMM without
success with the manual, forums with frustrated results. LOL

AGAIN

>"No acceptance of planes from FSX to SAMM Library" I'Ve taking the time it didn't workout setting up a library.

>"Example from x:\Aircraft\C-130H\model folder, texture.xxx folder, aircraft. cfg. is not possible to rewrite." I didn't know how this line would be possible for required modification. They are in two different areas of the game. Is it possible do make such a path?

>"Manual is not referred to FSX or is it?" references dont match. Is SAMM written for fsx or fs9 pathways?

> "Admin privileges?" Why do I need to do that to run SAMM?

>"What's a \params.data", > was result after * select the static model characteristics

>"why is it FS9 checkable not FSX in models box in SAMM Make Object Library" the two lower choices in left corner of box

>"Were is the Library Folder for SAMM?" after you * save the static model and place the static model - either directly

or via a library.

:(Before you answered ever wonder why i asked about Library folders?
If i did not see SAMM with a library folder under it, after extensive seaches on my computer why would i ask? I find

texture_SAMM ALL folders around SAM.exe only.I know Its mentioned to find.

>"Are the c130's and Chinnok's for FSX static?" Does freeware models C-130's or Chinnoks for FS9/FSX have static files?

>After I click Static models - SAMM goes to my Documents page to open a folder of any choice in my documents.

Don reading your replys about what you know about SAMM which was no help, with your simpler way of thinking.
You accomplished two things, you wasted my time having to read\rewrite about what I already  know and made me twist my
already open mind about you on the forum that I started to think and take more time. LOL Still want to help?:p

Filerichard, I did not ask you to repeat your (apparently off-the-cuff) questions. I asked you to tell me what was the problem you were experiencing in some detail, and several other specific questions which you seem to have overlooked. But, since you have repeated the questions, I offer the following responses - where I am able to understand them.

No acceptance of planes from FSX to SAMM Library
I have no idea what this means.

Were is the Library Folder for SAMM?
I already told you. If you don't have a Libraries subfolder in your SAMM folder, either you haven't installed SAMM correctly or you have a very old version of SAMM.

What's a \params.data
It's an internal-to-SAMM data file which is of no direct use to the user.

why is it FS9 checkable not FSX in models box in SAMM Make Object Library
Once again, I have no idea what you are asking.

Are the c130's and Chinnok's for FSX static?
Aircraft generally do not include a static version. SAMM creates the static version of most FS9 and FSX aircraft. Telling me they are freeware models on your X: drive doesn't help me much.

Manual is not referred to FSX or is it
?????

Admin privileges?
Whether or not you need administrator privileges depends on your system configuration. If Windows UAC is enabled (as it is on most systems) you will need access privileges of the administrator to run SAMM. If you are interested in the underlying issue, I suggest you research Windows UAC on the web

Example from x:\Aircraft\C-130H\model folder, texture.xxx folder, aircraft. cfg. is not possible to rewrite
Rewrite what? SAMM does not change the aircraft.cfg file.

SAMM is a mature and widely-used (successfully) utility. So, it is highly likely that whatever problems you are experiencing are the result of finger-trouble and/or computer configuration.

It would seem English is not your native language - which makes communication more difficult. Nonetheless, I am happy to help you. But, to do so, I've got to know what you have done in sufficient detail that I can repeat it, what you saw as a result and why you think it's wrong. Otherwise, we're wasting both our times.

Don

I cant explain SAMM

> "Admin privileges?" Why do i need to do that to run SAMM?UAC?
Whether or not you need administrator privileges depends on your system configuration. If Windows UAC is enabled (as it

is on most systems) you will need access privileges of the administrator to run SAMM.ok UAC SAMM

pick an aircraft
select the static model characteristics
save the static model and place the static model - either directly or via a library.

AGAIN the issues: Alpha C130H,or any stock FSX plane

>"SAMM is Not finding/acceptance of planes from FSX to SAMM Library" I'Ve taking the time it didn't workout setting up a library.

A Fix:

>"Example from x:\Aircraft\C-130H\model folder,texture.xxx folder, aircraft.cfg.
That is not possible to rewrite." I didn't know how this line would be possible for required modification. They are in
two different areas of the game.I'm not asking just about the Aircraft .cfg theres also a texture folder in the example.
Line/ pathway?
>"SAMM Manual is not referred to FSX or is it?" references to my FSX dont match. Is SAMM manual written for fsx or fs9
users to work with modification of pathways to make library?
"What's a \params.data", > was result after * select the static model characteristics
It's an internal-to-SAMM data file which is of no direct use to the user.ok why is error popping up?
>"Why is FS9 fill in the dot work for model library an not FSX in SAMM Make Object Library" the two lower choices in
left corner of box it excepts FS9 planes only?, after you save the static model were is it found?
>"Were is the Library Folder for SAMM?I found a scenery folder with somthing in it not located with SAMM" after you *
save the static model and place the static model - either directly or via a library. If you don't have a Libraries
subfolder in your SAMM folder, either you haven't installed SAMM correctly or you have a very old version of SAMM
>After I click Static models - SAMM goes to my Documents page to open a folder of any choice in my documents as if a static model was not made or I have to find it.

We're going nowhere fast in this thread. I keep asking you to tell me what you've done and what was the result and you keep ignoring my requests. Unless you tell me what I need to know, (i.e., what I ask for) rather than simply repeating questions I can't interpret, I'm not going to be able to help you.

Static models don't come into existence and get saved in a library magically. You have to create them first. You complain that a model is not in the library (somewhere) , but you haven't confirmed you've successfully created and saved a static model (it seems you haven't) and, since you still haven't found SAMM's Libraries folder, there's no way you can know what is or isn't in a library. You haven't even told me what version of SAMM you have. (If it doesn't say "Static Aircraft .mdl Maker 2 - Version 2.1.06" in the title bar, you've got an obsolete version.) The user manual goes into great detail on all these matters. The user manual is not written for either FS9 nor FSX. It is written for SAMM - which handles both FS9 and FSX aircraft.

"What's a \params.data", > was result after * select the static model characteristics
It's an internal-to-SAMM data file which is of no direct use to the user.ok why is error popping up?
This is the first time you've mentioned the error message. If you are getting such an error message, the static model has not been properly saved.

After I click Static models - SAMM goes to my Documents page to open a folder of any choice in my documents as if a static model was not made or I have to find it.
Nowhere on any of the dialogs do you click "Static models". If you mean the "select" button for static models, you won't find any static models until you create some. So, forget about libraries until you are able to successfully create static models

Once again, if you want my help, tell me what you are doing, step by step, using the names of the controls on the dialog. If you're not going to help me help you, then you are on your own.

I had more fun with 1/4 scale balsa remote control planes.

SAMM is a mature and widely-used (successfully) utility. So, it is highly likely that whatever problems you are experiencing are the result of finger-trouble and/or computer configuration.
I do better appreciated things that work right the first time.

I Selected Three aircrafts I download from Simviation web page an selected titles for each. I selected the static model characteristics. I think i skipped that from technical misunderstandings or lack of expertise.
(1.\gfgbnuiwb57075??????)

SAVE options clicked Save.mdl, clicked File Save.bgl, and put coordinates in for postioning Data I dont know proper

place for .BGL's for them to be seen in FSX. Clicked Compile Scenery Model to directly add to KMDT Scenery folders bgl's

I downloaded from simvation. I dont know elsewere to direct it.
clicked Make Library
Make Static Library listing three planes clicked Save Library.BGL unsure about naming that aswell.Model?
Found a model folder in user\downloads\ model\FS9 with them in it. Confused why the User/ Model\FS9\FSX folders each

had a F-18 folder.

I Went to Microsoft FSX\ Addon scenery and clicked Thru to KMDT folder with added
ALPHA C-130 Hercules.BGL
FSN CH47 Chinook.bgl
Lockheed C130j-30 USAF.bgl
click ok and it said paths already exits in Addon scenery library.
Check to see if static planes were in location and they were not.

Made a folder named SAMM BGLS and put them all in it draged them to desktop.

Found a Static download of CH47 us in simviation put it in addon scenery search thru library click ok found nothing.
Aside from that, SDK does not list them in Tool option ADD, Scenery list for Object placement, nor does it list them in

ADE for add aircraft.
I no longer see the planes listed in the Make Static Library box. Not sure if its from closing SAMM each time.

Were Should the BGL's be in the program FSX?
I cant explain these issues with out repeating myself to make clear, and I don't like having to waste my time trying to explain my off the cuff results.

Please take your time to think and explain what you understand or already know about SAMM (It has a Manual) and not worry about making me feel guilty about some intermittent bug infested program glitch's that you can't explain. ( Example from x:\Aircraft\C-130H\model folder, texture.xxx folder, aircraft. cfg.) SAMM was asking my to find the textures not found. And it still does.
Rewrite what? SAMM does not change the aircraft.cfg file.

?????

I appreciate any help on this matter!

Thank you very much!

-Rich

P.S.

Rich, this isn't going to work.

First of all, I am the author of SAMM. I KNOW how it works.

Second, there is an extensive user manual for SAMM which tells you precisely how to create static models. If you follow the manual (and not use your own concepts about what the program should do and how it should work) you will be able to create and display static aircraft.

The steps are simple:
  1. Select the aircraft/repaint for which you wish to create a static model.
  2. Select the characteristics of the static model
  3. Save the static model using Save .mdl file
Do not copy any files into SAMM folders. SAMM will not use any folders other than its own unless to tell it to, so don't bother looking elsewhere. Indeed, you don't even have to look in SAMM's folders; there's nothing there you can use directly.

You may place SAMM-generated static models in one of two ways:
  1. directly, using the SAVE .bgl File button, or
  2. by making a library (Make Library button) and placing the models with some library placement tool.
SAMM-generated static aircraft models are standard FS9 or FSX scenery models. They are placed where and how you'd place any other scenery model in FlightSim. Admittedly, both the above alternatives assume some knowledge of Flight Simulator and, in the case of the latter, how to place library models. This is knowledge that is beyond the scope of the SAMM manual but is readily available elsewhere if you need it.

SAMM will not make use of static models it didn't create, nor will it create static models of aircraft developed for versions of FlightSim prior to FS9.

I have written an extensive user manual for SAMM and I have answered your questions (those I understood) and offered addition advice in this thread - all apparently to no avail. It's unfortunate that you have difficulty following an English-language only manual, but that's the only language in which its available. You don't need to understand the entire manual, but you must understand and follow in directions in the sections entitled:
  • Installing, Executing and Uninstalling SAMM,
  • Creating the Static Model,
and one or both of:
  • Creating the Scenery Files
  • Creating Libraries of Static Aircraft.
I don't think there's anything more I can do to help you. If some other user want to take over from here, please do.

I choose my position yet i want to uninstall and run.

Static Aircraft .mdl Maker 2-Version 2.1.06

I dont understand my results and is unable to show you proof to compare to the manual. So you can understand my position (http://pictures ?) I"m not familiar with this forum to send pics. Again I've read most of the Information from your forums, Manual pages and have little change with the same results using this program. Your steps to reinforce explanations with references back to the Manual are not equal or greater than my negitive results.
I have repeating procedues over an over.

SELECT
FSN CH47 Chinook,CH47 Chinook (from download Simviation web site, not fightsim.com)

Save.mdl.
why the error example: "The following textures used by the model were not found $PANEL_C185_2" and then it continues after clicking ok
"Static model associated textures and static placement .xml file saved." It is a contradiction, after guessing it makes grey texture adjustments.

Save .bgl button
-Positioning data if manditory N40*11.49 replace W for the E W76*44.91 with 00.0 Alt Can I leave the alt 0.00 ?

Placing Static Model
click compile Scenery Model it opened Windows browser to find Scenery subfolder{ Programs File(86)\ microsofts fsx \Addon Scenery\scenery folder} clicked ok

I did not see .bgl in FSX"s scenery folder in ADDON scenery library to OK. Your assumptions of my educated research skills from English in collage, had me hoping it would magically appear to avoid your comments and coining of words, Author of SAMM. Sorry for the persistence.
I have been using SAMM (static Airplane Model Maker) with

Microsoft FSX. Had some success working with simviation
freeware. With certain planes downloaded not all textures
with fs9 model Chrome..(.DDS) could be found by SAMM, not
perfect spotting\placement after lat. and longitude
coordinates texted. With work placed a few planes an
started FSX. Flew around the airport and error reports
popped up. FSX reporting search found nonexistent paths
C:\microsoft\fsx\ plane\ textures. Tried removing all
info on the plane issue and it remained still. Needed to
repair the game and ran into more issues

Certain ancillary suggests help from anybody that has had success with SAMM?
It would be much appreciated

Thank you

Richard,Can you not get help from an English speaking friend.I have got SAMM working on one of my computers, and it is giving me much satisfaction,so I hope you will persevere with it.But Don can not make much sense of your questions because of the language thing.I should ignore your downloaded aircraft, pick a default aircraft, say a 172,and try to put that into the library.Ignore any thought of placing it on an airfield until you have got to that stage.
