• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

lines in FSSC

Hi

I'm pretty new to FSSC and I've created a taxiway for my scenery. I want to put a single-sollid red line on the taxiway. Sounds easy, but it isn't . . I've been trying for 3 hours to create such a line, without succes. If I use the line function, the line doens't shows up at all, and if I use the taxiway line function it shows up but in the default color, but I changes it under preferences to red. I don't want to use a texture, because I don't want to have more, my scenery is heavy enough. I've tried different layers and many other things but it just doesn't help. Any ideas on this?? I really hope you can help me because it drives me mad :banghead: I can create a taxiway, make very complex buildings in gmax, design afcads . . . . but I can't draw a line

Thanks for helping

Jorrit

(ps I use FS9, FSSC version 1.5.11)

Did you try AFCAD2? It would have been a lot easier to do the taxiway in that. I hold short node will produce a yellow line across the taxiway. No red though.

The best way to make a red taxiline is to use a road with a small width and then apply a red texture (just a simple 4x4 pixel texture can do the job). Roads only work on layer 16, so you must make sure you polygons have a lower layer.

Joe, no I've tried afcad and it's indeed a lot easier but I'm designing an add-on for NL-2000, and the terrain of NL2000 will show up over the afcad, so I don't see the taxiway.

Arno, I will try that, let you know if it works. Thanks for helping me. :)

Tried it, but not with a real success, my line has to be 0,25 m thick. I tried as you said arno, but it didn't worked. I also tried to make the road thicker, and it showed up when 3m, 2m 1,6m thick. 1m didn't worked. Is there some kind of minimum that a road has to be? If so, I need to find another way to make the lines. I also need to draw the other lines (yellow) of the taxiway with it. It quite annoying when you get stuck on such a small thing, especially when you already did complex modelling and texturing in gmax and thought to complete the hardest part.
I hope you can help me.

I also have another question, I'm making and add-on for NL-2000 as I said, and they used also selfmade terrain. Does it effect my layers. In the scenery library van FS2004 did I put my scenery on 1 and NL-2000 on place 2. If, for example, in nl2000 is something with layer 16 and I made something with layer 4, does my thing show up?

Thank again.

Jorrit

[edit] maybe a bit confusing what I say above, so I added an image of what I mean.

I can't remember for FSSC, but Airport (another tool that can do the same) had a similar problem in the past. When you make the line too thin it would not show at all, because a width of 0 was used.
I know the NL2000 EHLE was also made with FSSC and there are also red markings in there, I would have to check how these have been made, but it must be possible somehow :).

You need to place your scenery above the NL2000 scenery in the scenery library. Otherwise the exclude of NL2000 will also remove your new scenery.

I've double checked and my scenery is above the NL2000, but the taxiway of nl-2000 (layer 16 I think) shows up over my new polygon (layer 8). So it doesn't matter what the priority in the FS library is if the layers are different, if the layers are the same, then it does matter. I think.
If I'm right I should make all my layers 16 or higher, I don't know if that is possible, I need to make a taxiway, grass, taxiway line and roads.

As far as I could see now in NL2000 most polygons at the airport are on 4 or 8, so if you use layer 12 I think you should be safe.

For the red taxilines, in NL2000 these are drawn with a RefPoint scale of 0.1, which means they are 20 cm width in total. I can only look at the source from here, so I don't know which setting in FSSC was used to get that.
