• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Local vs. Global Libraries -- SOLVED

I am creating a static aircraft for me to place in my custom scenery. Actually, I have already created it. But I cannot get it to show up in Instant Scenery 3 unless I select "libraries not available in this area". It gives me warnings that these 'local" objects won't work (since they are only supposed to be used at certain geographic locations), but at least it does now show my library.

So, my questions is two-fold: 1) Why did SAMM 2.108 make a limited-local library? Other aircraft models I created with 2.106 worked just fine. 2) More importantly, how can I tell SAMM 2.108 to make a global library for my aircraft?

Thanks!

I don't really know why, but I noticed that in addition to the BGL file being in the directory I specified, it was also present in SAMM2018/Libraries/name of plane/Scenery. So, I copied that one (which was slightly larger in size) to my FSX scenery folder, and now it works!

So I guess I'll change my question: Why does SAMM 2108 save more than one BGL file in more than one place? And why does one work and the other (in the location I requested) not?

But the bottom line is: I got what I wanted -- SAMM is a great tool!

SAMM doesn't "know" anything about local or global libraries. (That's an IS "thing"). SAMM saves your model to the library you designate.

This aspect of SAMM's operation hasn't changed in "many moons", certainly not since 2.1.06.

As for why you found a copy of your library in SAMM's library folder, you must at some point have directed SAMM to save the library there (perhaps by not specifying another location.) If you don't need that copy, you can delete it.
