• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Marriott Hotel, 1st model issues

Gary, thanks a bunch. The first link did it and I succeeded in projecting my texture onto the rounded surface. The fun part of it all was to apply the technique on a surface that was in an element inside an element inside another element :)

If someone else is using this tip and it's not working for them, make sure you are painting the texture on the proper side otherwise it will not work.

Ah, that's a 'Quonset' hut? I was calling it a Nissen hut. I made one too, which I found in a museum in California last year.

IIUC, credit should go to the North American Indians for the original design and word: :o

"Quonset" is an American Indian word meaning “small, long place.

Reportedly, credit for the "Nissen Hut" must then go to a Canadian (by way of the British, of course ); US adaptation of the designs followed later:

PS: I got a kick out of the initially cited wiki article above:

"The erection of Quonset huts has been banned in the US state of Alaska for many years due to so many already being in the state and the majority of those falling into disrepair and becoming environmental hazards."

Looks like FS scenery object modelers will need to render with custom texture sets to accurately represent the "wear and tear" these structures are likely to have in the real world ! :p

FYI: Some possible resources for texturing "old" buildings:

Hmmm... judging by how nice Patrick's accommodations look at the Marriott, I'll prefer those classy facilities over a "hut" at the end of my day.

Maybe someone will develop a flight planner featuring the ability to pre-book "lodging" as well as waypoints during our virtual travels in the FS world ? :D

(Do not take this remark too seriously)

Hi,

I am no indian but I recall making a kind of quonset hut myself when I was 12, invite friends of both sexes over, and use your imagination to fill in the rest.
I think I prefer the hut over the Mariott because at least you are allowed to smoke in there.
Seriously, I noted you were mentioning a couple of sites with nice textures (I knew the sites already) but what I did not get (the hang of yet) is how to use those textures on larger objects without having this ""recurring" effect, I mean, you can tile the texture of course but how do you go about using these kind of say wall textures on a 300 ft long quaywall without this effect of repeating patterns showing?
