• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

can mcx add ability to read mirrors applied to object made in Gmax, 3ds, Blender, etc, exported in gmax, dae, and similar graphic formats?

Which file format are you going to read them in?

They are not compiled into the mdl format, and 3ds is simply not very useful.

Perhaps (as has been the practice) use a mirror modifier in your stack and don't use the mirror tool/button.

Hi,

For what would you like to use such a function?

i know mdl doesnt. .blend does, .obj does, .gmax, .skp, .dae, etc do, but mcx doesnt see the mirror. i want to create half a obj/structure and the other side is mimicked, but in mcx, it doesnt see it(the mirror) in the formats available, unless i missed something. i think ill try to convert the mirror to mesh.

As I suggested above Kevin,

Use a mirror MODIFIER. Then you cease to have a problem.

Hi,

Dae or obj also don't store the mirror modifier as well. Only the resulting geometry (triangles) are stored.

But if you try to fix the gmax mirror bug, I don't think there is a way to do that after you exported from the tool. Just fix it in gmax itself (and never use that faulty modifier anymore).

Just to clarify: its the Mirror modifier works. It's the Mirror (Transform) tool that doesn't.

EDIT: Probably also worth noting that the Tool does get exported, it's just that all the Normals are flipped.

This can be rectified by re-Mirroring and re-exporting, or Resetting X-form (Object properties) and Flipping the Normals

Sorry, I didnt specify that I use blender. I can export to .gmax with it, which is why I included the extention.

I use blender and sketchup for my models. I am a beginner with GMAX, only able to do a basic structure. The only thing I dont want to use sketchup for is complex structures and curvature because its easier in blender for me. :)
In blender I did use a mirror modifier, but its not importing into MCX.

What formats store the mirror where MCX can see it as a mesh/poly? I can convert to just about any format that MCX can read, I just dont know the format that stores the mirror.

Maybe you can send me the file for testing? Might be an issue with blender exporting.

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos

which file? .blend or the export? which export format would you like?

The export file. In the format that you are using to export it to FS.
