• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi everyone, I want to have some idea from you guys if you know where to find the DEM mesh that resample can use because the link at the Terrain SDK doesn't seem to work. This is FS9 version.

Thanks,
Justin

Hi Justin:

"Answer me these questions 3", and you might get some helpful information:;)

1.) What geographic area (ex: USA, European Country etc.) do you want to make FS terrain mesh for?

2.) What meter resolution source data DEMs do you want to use with FS2004 (FS9) SDK resample?

3.) What LOD resolution do you want your terrain mesh to render at in FS9?

Kind Regards, :)

Actually I like the world mesh and the detail should be the the highest.

Hi Justin:

Could you explain what you mean by "the world mesh"?

Is there a particular area you are interested in making a FS9 mesh for (it might get you answer as to where to get your DEMs from, and whether you can get the data for free!)

The highest level of detail of terrain "shape" which can be displayed in FS9 is (by FS9 SDK standards) LOD11 (19.1 meters), which has a 4,892 meter span, and can be seen extending radially out from the aircraft for a distance of 12 miles.

FSX SDK Standards
QMID level: 13
LOD: 11
Block size (degrees) 0.043945313
One Pixel (degrees) 0.000170993
Meters/pixel 19.00

In FS9.1 terrain mesh data is "read" at LODs higher than 11, and processed "internally" to decide on what slope textures to show, but the FS9.1 rendering engine does not further change the "shape" of the displayed terrain mesh at LODs above 11.

Regards,
