• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi

How can I set the maximum sight range of model biult using sketchup and converted to MDL by modelconverterX and compiled by SDK BGLCOMP.
I want to set tiny model to apear only in radius of 5km

Shold I use LOD or some XML syntax ?
can you give some examples ?

Hi,

You can't set the range in XML, so if you want to limit it you need to add an (empty) LOD to the model. This can be done in the lod creator form of modelconverterx.

I have noticed that many low poly SketchUp models appear and disappear much closer to the observer than default FSX models and I'm thinking this might be solved by adding the same 600 polygon model from LOD 100 to itself at LOD 40 or LOD 16.

Now if you want the model visible only in a radius of 5km, I suggest you use the LOD editor to add an empty model at LOD 30. If the model is visible from too far away, change the empty model to LOD 40 and keep experimenting until you hit it. Just remember the smaller numbers are for how far away you see the whole thing and the bigger numbers are for how close to see the eye candy.
You only have to disable the relevant scenery layer, make the change and re-activate the scenery for these simple adjustments; you don't need to restart FSX.
