• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Models Not Showing

Hi There,

I have a number of models I have placed in the modelib folder with the relevant texture folder as well and when starting MSFS have built the package, closed it then reopened it but for the life of me cannot get the models to show in the list.

Any ideas anyone? By the way, used the SimpleScenery SDK folder with everything reenamed as required.

Many thanks,

Graham

In MSFS, what does your project look like in the Project Editor tab?

I have just figured out how to get them to show but it's odd. When exporting from Blender it didn't work but exporting from 3DS max does....I feel I will have to go back to 3DS for my design..

I am having the same problem. Two days ago I had it working. Can I ask how you resolved the problem, please?

I maybe spoke to soon as it stopped working again! What I have started doing now, which seems to work, is to give all the objects a new guid (generated from https://www.guidgenerator.com/) and they now seem to work ok. One other thing I noticed is that I have to place a few at a time otherwise it doesn't always work (if you have many models).

Thanks for the advice Graham. I’m a newbe so I do know what a guidgenerator is but where do I put in Blender. Do I use it to replace the item name?

I'm a newbie as well to be honest and learning something new everyday. You need to first generate your bin and gtlf files using the MSFS exporter in Blender and in the export options you can get it to generate a GUID. I have just taken to replacing the one it generates with one from the generator I mentioned. ModelXConverter can also do it if you want, just export your blender model into something Modelx Converter can read.

Is it a straight forward copy or export into Modelx? It give it a try in the morning.

Blender:- Either export using the MSFS tool (generates all 3 files you need), or export to dae somewhere and use ModelX to save it to MSFS format (bin, gtlf and xml). Don't forget the textures go in a separate folder one level above the folder that contains those 3.

Unfortunately I am facing the same problem. I've made 3 models in the same way and 2 of them show up but the 3rd one doesn't despite everything I try. I checked shaders, UV maps, normals, weird geometry. No errors of any kind show up in the console or during export. I have been fighting this for 3 days now but I will not give up and I will try to report back if I am ever successful. I have to say though, while I wanted to model my home town's airport my patience is wearing thin, the dev experience for this product is just abysmal.

My first theory was that I accidentally broke the UV map or materials during development but after redoing everything and rebaking textures myriad of times nothing helped so far. My hope is to maybe just try to start from scratch as I am guessing that the blend file may be broken somehow in a way that makes the sim freak out but I put a ton of work into the geometry of that building so I am hesitant to do so.

For reference I am using this tool https://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Blender2MSFS

I am using the same exporter for Blender and after creating from scratch a scenery folder structure by keeping the same folder names as the sample scenery, it works.
