• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Multiple textures sheet for 1 Object?

Hello to All...

A simple question:

Is it possible and how to have multiple texture sheets for 1 object/model? For instance: 1 sheet for roofs and another for the rest? Hopefully that is a simple question :).

I know about scaling is an option to fit everything on to 1, but doesn't that change the quality of the textures?

Thanks!

Of course that is possible. Add a new material (that will hold the second texture sheet) to your object, select the faces you want to be on the second sheet and assign them to the new material.

One other question.... am I right in thinking that the detail or displacement map dosen't function in FSX or the Blender2FSX tool?

Hi Doug, detail maps should work, although I've never tested it. You can choose a detail map and set the detail scale in the FSX Material Params. But you will not see the effect in Blender. You can, however, achieve the latter by going to the Texture panel, putting your detail map into a texture slot and change the "Size" (scale) under "Mapping".

If you do test it, please report your findings. Thanks.

Hi Doug!

Yes, you can use a normal map in FSX using Blender. I have found that you need to use a normal map that uses RGB. Below is an example of a normal map:

I hope that helps!

Thanks, Kris:)

Hello Krispy,...

I wasn't referring to a normal map (Bump Map),... I was referring what FSX calls a Detail Texture map,... though I think they currently calling it a Displacement map,... they are similar but not the same.

I will take a look at it, Capt_x,... though I can't guarantee when I'll get around to testing it at the moment.

Thanks,
