• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New Computer for FS X

Hi,

I'm looking at building the following spec system to run FS X on. I know DX10 is out shortly along with the associated hardware, but I'm leaving that to settle a bit before I buy a DX10 card.

* Intel Core2 Duo E6700
* 2Gb DDR2 800MHz (2x 1Gb) 4-4-4-12
* 1Gb ASUS GeForce 7950GX2 (PCI-X)
* ASUS P5W DH Deluxe i975X Motherboard
* 2x 500Gb Western Digital WD5000YS RE2 (SATAII) RAID 0

Would FS X benefit from me getting XP 64-bit Edition, or will XP Pro perform just as well?

How would this spec do for Vista? Does it need more memory?

Best regards,
Robin.

I have a very similar setup to yours save for a few changes:

* Intel Core2 Duo E6800
* 2Gb DDR2 800MHz (2x 1Gb) 4-4-4-12
* 512Mb ATI Radeon 1900XTX (PCI-X)
* ASUS P5W DH Deluxe i975X Motherboard
* 2x 150Gb Western Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM RAID 0

Flight Sim is a 32bit app, so the answer is "no."

However, what I'd like to know is how you'll get your 800MHz ram to run at that speed and not 533MHz as is the case for my system.

Im chomping at the bit for my next machine. I usually build a super gaming rig each year and spare no expense. Because of all the new tech and hardware I have had this machine for a year and half. My next rig will look like:

Pentiume Quad Core (Kentsfield)
Still up in the air over motherboards
2 DX10 BFG Quad Core Video Cards for SLI
4-6gigs DDR2 Ram
2 500gig HD in raid
SoundBlaster X-Fi

Hi,

However, what I'd like to know is how you'll get your 800MHz ram to run at that speed and not 533MHz as is the case for my system.
Check your BIOS settings - it should be running at 800 MHz (if that is what your memory supports)??? If it isn't, manually set the frequencies. So long as the memory is rated for 800 MHz, you'll be fine. Are you sure you don't have slower memory than you think you have? :confused: The CPU and motherboard certainly supports it, so it suggests to me that you have slower memory installed.

I downloaded the Motherboard manual for my system and it supports 1066 MHz memory (PC8500) so this is what I've ordered.

XP64 bit.

In answer to your question regarding xp64 bit OS.......I have recently been doing a lot of work with this OS to obtain compatibilty with several servers on my system and have been constantly frustrated by the lack of credible driver supplies for even the most mundane items like webcams and remote input devices and while most graphics and sound card makers do have 64bit driver sets available it has been found that these are often minor tweaks to 32 bit driver setups.

After some investigation amoung the community it would appear that the general thinking of driver writting companies is that they currently prefer to sit out the wait untill the release of M/softs new OS sometime next year as details of this system are still very fluid, untill then you pays your money and yo may or may not get the results you require. other than that the 64bit addition comes with a fair compliment of generic drivers and works well within the confines these provide.

Regards.

Jim
