• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I am building my first airpost in Alaska, and I want it to be a resort/airport with roads for driving cars and boat docks and shipyards and cabins with personalized name signs at the parking sopts, but the problem is 1)I'm a beginner and never designed an airport or scenery, and 2) Alaska is very hilly.

First question, is there a good program (preferabally freeware, but payware will work also) that will flatten about a 30 X 30 mile peice of landand make the edges slope into the water? (the airport will have boat docks, by the ocean)

Secondly, What are the best scenery and airport editors to use? The problem with the scenery editors I've tried is they don't have good tutorials, and the land I want to place is at the edge of an ocean. They don't show the land, so it's hard to tell where the land ends and the ocean begins in the editor.

And finally, 3rdly, could someone dedicate some time to walk me through and help me learn how to use suggested programs, or provide me with a link to good in-depth tutorals for complete beginners?

My email is jthwalker@gmail.com. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Making a flatten is not that hard. You can do it with programs like Ground2k4 or SBuilder (these allow you to design other parts of the mesh scenery as well).

And if you only want to flatten, then a tool like FsFlatten is even easier to use.

That really depends on what you want to do. At the moment I mainly use AFCAD for the airport layout and then an object placer like ObPlacer XML or Rwy12 to place the objects on the airport.

Before Fs2004 came I mainly used FSSC and GroundMaker to design my airports, but these are not (yet) updated for the new Fs2004 techniques, so I dropped them.
