• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

hi everyone -

ok i am new at this so be gentle - -

I would like to repaint a FSX aircraft with my own paint scheme. example 747-400

I have PhotoShop with the nivida plug in to view the dds files. I can layer the paint scheme I want, but i can't get it right because of the matting of the art. so if i was to write INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS on the sid eof the plane, it would not show right becuase in the dds file the plane is broken into several different images merged into the dds file

So is there a way to model the dds file and paint it at the same time?

so in a nutshell, what would be the way i need to modify the white paint scheme for the default 747 in FSX?

I have access to 3dsMax8 (never really used it) i have the deluxe verison of FSX so I have the SDK and gmax

Any help or direction from someone who has done it before would be greatly appreciated.

I just want to start painting my own color scheme but using the same FSX aircraft models (i'd like to keep the effects and the VC's) - there is a way to do this right?

thanks guys!!!

1) Load the .dds file in Photoshop.
2) Image/Rotate/Flip Canvas Vertical
3) Paint your new layers
4) Image/Rotate/Flip Canvas Vertical
5) Save As DDS/DXT5 using same filename.

The point of "flipping the canvas" is to make the image rightside up and mirrored, so you can actually SEE what you're doing... :D

Just don't forget to "reflip" before saving though!

newbie repaint

Cool - I got that far with the loading and saving as well as the flipping of the image.

But the one thing that is stumping me is how would I layout writing along the fuselage?

So if I wanted to write
"I DONT WANT TO CRASH" along the side of the plane knowing that the fuselage is broken ino several sections with the 1 half and then the second half as well as the doors being off to the side i would have to split the text I want into sections

(to see an example of what I am talking about - > open up one the default FSX 747 dds files in the textures folder of the 747-400)

just wondering how to put it all together

any ideas?
