• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX No Ground model in FSX?

Hi @ all
After working for about 11 hours on a project, I made the ground model of the airfield like hills etc. ( I just can the tip of making this all the same way, because it makes the approach more difficult:D)
The flatting of the area for no holes in the ground worked perfect, but then the small hills din't appear at all on my computer. And yes I compiled it OK, put both files in the folder...
I gave this airfield to a friend of mine to test it, he could see these hills.
My System is a FSX Professional with Acceleration, Vista 64.
The one of my friend is a Win XP and FSX Standard with Acceleration.
I do not know what is wrong, I made everything right.
I used ADE 1.45.
With kindly regards,
Gnome

Hi,

Maybe you can explain in a bit more detail how you made those hills. Did you use flattens for them?

Same here.

A little more detail or pictures added will help.

Every version of FSX works a little different with scenery. Example, FSX version SP1 has a flatten built into the runway. FSX version Acceleration/SP2 does not.

If you design with Acceleration/SP2 then some users that have other versions may not see what you see or the other way around.

Actually there are just flattens I made with another altitude than airfield elevation. Actually I have another question which I have not asked,
is there another possibility to design hills/higher areas ?

PS.: I do not have much experience with forums, so sorry for didnt't realize you have answered me.

Hi,

Most people will make hills not with flattens (they are supposed to make things flat after all). If you want to make a lot of changes to the terrain you are better off with the techniques from the terrain SDK, SBuilderX is a nice tool for this. For making many hills you probably need some elevation data. If it is just a small hill near the airport a flatten might work as well though.

If your friend can see them but you can't:

1. Check that the scenery library they are in is not sitting below other flattens / AFCAD bgls for the area

2. Check that your Mesh complexity and distance settings are set reasonably high. Perhaps complexity 100% and Mesh dist at 10 metres or less.

Actaully my friend's texture is set a bit lower.
And many thanks for you advices, it's very good to know that I can ask for help.
OK, is it possible anyway to include those tools in ADE so that I just ahve to use one tool, and, how do the other tools compile the new texture settings, are they also Addon scenery BGLs which yould be very good or do they get compiled straight in the main scenery which would be not so good because I want to give this airfield to other friends also.

After some trying I still have the problem.
Maybe the Flatten fpr the hill is wrong from the beginning on.
What options in the ground polygon do I have to choose to have a hill above the main airport flatten?
Or is there any problem with the airport elevation change?
Hope to hear from you soon,
Gnome
