• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 No Ident Airports

Hi Hopefully a quick one, How do I track down airports that do not have an Ident. I'm currently trying to enhance Ascension FHAW but ADE says that it has no Ident so I assume it is located in one of the BGL's

season's greetings

Paul

FHAW loads fine in my ADE. Also, you cannot have an airport or heliport without an ICAO (ID). You might try the ADE menu Tools | Update Stock Indexes, and see if it catches the missing airport. Otherwise, I think you'll need to reinstall ADE.

Ok Had a go at what you suggested , completely re installed including both HF4 and 5. It found FHAW but could not find the base folder. So tried changing from steam to microsoft and then back again and now it has lost FHAW again.
Any ideas please

Paul

Ok spent over 6 hours now on this, still getting nowhere. If i carry out a fresh install it will find FHAW, I then proceed and then the program tells me it cant find the base file as the path is incorrect. Check paths, they are correct. Close the program down, open back up try it all again this time its telling me FHAW is not stock?????? I think its telling me that I shouldn't take up scenery building again. If any kind sole has even the smallest idea of what is happening , or not, please let me know.

What's the path to your MSFS generic airports... I have D:\MSFS\Official\Steam\fs-base-genericairports

ADE points here:

Hi Paul:

I am inclined to think Dick is likely to explain your options for finding the MSFS sub-folder for your airport of interest pending your reply.

We do need a workaround (since months ago) for ADE to find/load non-Deluxe / non-Premium airports (aka "generic airports") in MSFS.

Whereas ADE Alpha-21 HF-5 has updated its internal database of airport ICAO's, AFAIK, it is not yet able to find / load "generic airports".

MSFS' MS-Store version (mine is the Deluxe / Premium version) current path for ADE to use in finding / loading FHAW: :pushpin:

[MSFS-2020_Packages install path]\Official\OneStore\fs-base-genericairports\scenery\0504\APX44340.bgl.

(Hmmm ...might this path to MSFS "generic" airports now be a 'moving target' to slow down freeware airport modders / developers ?) :scratchch

FYI: This path is determined by via an existing FSX or P3D installation:

Google search this query string: "wiki Ascension Island airport ICAO"

Click this link in the query results:

RAF Ascension Island - Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Ascension_Island
At the top right of that wiki page, click on:

On the the top right of the resulting GeoHack page for that wiki, copy: the 'decimal' Geographic Coordinates into Windows' clipboard

In the table below on that same GeoHack page, click on: Google Maps > Satellite, then zoom out to see that ICAO's 'world area'

Browse to
: https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv5/sdk/world/terrain/terrain_overview.html#Base File Information

After determining the FS 'world' Area ID number (# 0504 for FHAW), load FSX or P3D SDK TMFviewer, then browse to:

[FSX or P3D install path]\Scenery\0504\

Load: dem0504.bgl into TMFViewer, then:

TMFViewer Menu > Jump > Lat-Long... > paste / edit FHAW decimal coordinates into Latitude and Longitude fields > click {OK] button

Zoom in until File # 4434 appears (and no longer changes if you move the mouse cursor); this confirms the FS Area file # of FHAW

NOTE: MSFS does not seem to have a CVX vector Airport Boundary Polygon for FHAW, so you may need to make your own flatten.

To see the FSX / P3D airport flatten, load this file into FSX / P3D SDK TMFViewer as well:

[FSX or P3D install path]\Scenery\0504\CVX44340.bgl

In ADE Alpha 21, HF-5 after filling in the initial required MSFS data, browse to load FHAW from:

[MSFS-2020_Packages install path]\Official\OneStore\fs-base-genericairports\scenery\0504\APX44340.bgl.

I hope this helps with this- and other future- projects ...until Jon (finally) issues a HotFix or new Alpha of ADE 2020 for MSFS. :)

PS: Perhaps Dick knows a MSFS "system" file we could instead load into FS2Kx / P3D SDK TMFViewer to do this via MSFS' folder chains ?
