• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Not seeing models and error messages

This looks like the ideal program for me as I just want to add some static ac to airports I use regularly. I downloaded SAMM and have read the manual, and run the program using a 2004 aircraft file (C-130H Hercules IRIAF). I have FSX Acceleration on a 2G dual core processor, with 3G Ram and everything runs well on it (after I figure it out). I followed the manual, and where it says you should now see your aircraft (in the scenery) I don't see it. The program does create the mdl and bgl files. Then I saw G Man's directions to make a scenery object library and I did that also. I have gotten these error messages when trying to add ac/library to scenery.

"Scenery-cfg file error. Invalid remote scenery path in Scenery Area.125. Click OK to continue." (And subsequently in area 126 -129 as I tried it a few more times.)

"Local Scenery Directory \Add on scenery\C=130H Hercules IRIAF\Scenery in Scenery Area.129 not found. Click OK to continue."

When I continued the scenery library would either have blank spaces or after the object library was created, the library file name, but I still can't see the static ac in place.

Well, long story. Can you give me any help? Thanks a lot.

First of all, the "=" looks a little suspicious - especially since FS9 is complaining about a missing scenery folder.

The procedure for setting up a scenery folder for a static aircraft is idential to setting up a scenery folder for any other scenery - with one exception. That exception is that the textures for the model MUST be in a sub-folder (named as the model) in the standard \texture folder.

Just to keep things simple, try placing your static model using SAMM. It does everything that needs to be done except setting up the Scenery Library entry. And, you can avoid that step by placing your model in an existing scenery folder (that FS9 can find).

Hi Don,
Thanks for the response.I tried several times again but still no luck. I'd like to list step by step what I did, and results, and perhaps you can see where I go wrong. If you can't help I'll understand.

I downloaded a new 2004 file (Temco TT-1 Pinto NATC) open
ned SAMM, selected the model folder and hit "save .mdl" SAMM saved the file in the model module with the model name and the file contains:
Texture folder (with texture files)
AC File; nofnot.mdl
Temco TT-1 Pinto NATC.mdl
Tempco TT-1 Pinto NATC.mdl.bak

Back to SAMM interface and hit save bgl file.

So far, so good. BUT

Where did you save the .bgl file. Did you position the model where you would be able to see it. Was the scenery folder in which you had SAMM save the model and textures enabled in the Scenery Library?

Can't see files and error messages

Hi Don,
Thanks for the response.I tried several times again but still no luck. I'd like to list step by step what I did, and results, and perhaps you can see where I go wrong. If you can't help I'll understand.

I downloaded a new 2004 file (Temco TT-1 Pinto NATC) open SAMM, selected the model folder and hit "save .mdl" SAMM saved the file in the model module with the model name and the file contains:
Texture folder (with texture files)
AC File; nofnot.mdl
Temco TT-1 Pinto NATC.mdl
Tempco TT-1 Pinto NATC.mdl.bak

Back to SAMM interface and hit save bgl file.

SAMM compiles scenery model from entered data and adds BGL file to model folder, and I browse and put it in Addon Scenery.

Start FSX and open scenery library hit add area and file not there.

I copy it from SAMM to Explorer. Run add file again, find file and try to add but get error message re file location. Hit OK and file "compiles" and is added to scenery areas but I don't see the static model where it should be placed in FSX

Also now when I open FSX I get error messages for the two files I have tried to place with SAAMM (C-130 and Temco)

I hope you can help me as I'd really like to use your utility. Thanks again.

Jack

SAMM will do all that for you. Just tell it where to put the BGL when you "Save .bgl file". All you should have to do after that is enable the scenery folder in the Scenery Library if it's not already enabled.
