• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,

Using ObPlacer XML, locating Default Library Objects, how do I get the

gen_beaconland to rotate (beacon lamp housing)

and

gen_beaconlandcone (bright and cone of light) to rotate and only show at dusk, night and dawn?

Thanks, all

Fern

Okay, I might make an idiot of myself, but I will try to help...

If it is an effect you are placeing, I believe that the hours of opperation are part of the "parameters" section of the Scenery Object. Now, I'm not really sure how to get objects to rotate unless you make them in gmax with an animation, but I am sure there are other ways to do it (Arno, please correct me).

Question from me, if the beacon knows to turn on during IFR conditions, wouldnt it figure to turn on at dusk and continue through dawn?

Hi Fern,

If these objects are part of the default libraries made by MS then you can not make them rotate. You place them as they are contained in the library, you can not tweak them.

Also adding a condition like time of day is not possible, to achieve that you would have to "hack" the library BGL file and change the object in there.

You need to attach a "BEACON" to the object, and the beacon will rotate at day and night. Check the BGLComp SDK for types of objects that will attach, and the XML syntax. Also there's a simple tutorial out there by David "Opa" marshall that should get you going in the right direction.

Best,
sg
