• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Parking Rules?

Hello, everyone.

Is there such a thing as a single place that can tell me(or someone as equally confused as I am) some plain english rules for parking. The SDK is difficult to grasp in some ways. I've picked up things here and there, but need more. I have been unable to get any addon AI planes to work. Default airliners and small GA work, but what size parking does the DC3 need? I know that there is some formula about wing radius and such. I use AIsort to make new flightplans. Does the tool make a difference? Now that ADE helps me make great airports, I want to play with interesting AI plans. What do I look for in the config. file that makes an addon corsair(not AI) work fine, but not some other plane?
Thanx

Bob

In the aircraft.cfg, search for wing_span= in the [airplane_geometry] section. The value after the "=" is the wing span in feet. Half this value and multiply by 0.3048 to find the minimum parking radius in metres.

Thanx, George. That's the formula I'm looking for. Is the parking radius the most likely reason AIsort can't find parking for some planes? I know that you have to have one or two more of each spot than you have planes of each type. And the 45 minute wait.

Another thing to keep in mind, is that many, many AI aircraft you install will have incorrect wing_span values. This means they won't park worth a darn when you put them in your FSX.

You'll want to edit the aircraft.cfg files for your AI to make it match Reggie's chart on the link above.

If You are still having trouble can you post the three files Aisort uses to produce your traffic (Actyps_*.txt, Airportlist.Txt and Sceds_*.txt), I should be able to help get it up and ruuning.
Regards Frank.

I'm not at my FSX computer right now. Give me some time and I'll get back to you. Thanks for your interest and your program. It took me awhile to set up, but after some trial and error it is easy to use. FSX rules seem to be the problem. I'll be in touch.

It seems I have to make sure the parking type is correct in the Actyps file. Things seem to be OK now. Thanks for your help

Understand there are two very different parking processes for Flight Simulator.

Both are based upon the aircraft size and in FSX the critical number is the wing_span= value.

The only Yes/No rule in parking is "Does the airport have an empty parking spot as large or larger than the aircraft size?"

If the answer is no - the aircraft will be deleted if it is AI and the user aircraft will only be offered taxi for take off options.

If the answer is yes - the aircraft will be parked if it is AI, and it will be offered parking if it is a user aircraft.

At this point user and AI aircraft work completely differently.

All the detail stuff about atc_parking_type= and atc_parking_code= in the aircraft.cfg only apply to AI traffic.

The user aircraft basically will get the first available parking spot of about the right size. Parking codes and parking type don't matter. If the parking spot is a type GATE - the ATC will say "Taxi to Gate #", if the parking spot is anything else the ATC will say "Taxi to general aviation parking".

This includes cargo and military spots if they are coded that way.

AI traffic is completely different with parking codes in the aircraft.cfg and the parking spot properties being very high priority.
