What might I look for when I have the following problem....

Sometimes my map bgl results do not show up. To test I redo the whole thing and compile just the background. It does show up.

I helped a friend make photoreal recently. He followed my instructions. He has done it successfully twice now.

1. my FSX active scenery is open and running.
2. open SBX
3.get sat image
4. background shows up in SBX
5. add map from background
6. do not compile map yet. minimize SBX window
7. from work folder take bmp to paint program and do a blend mask
8. save this blend mask as same file name but with _B.tif
9. Back in SBX select all maps - compile
10. I get photo01.bgl rename as I wish. (I usually call it photo_sceneryariportname.bgl

11. Place this bgl in scenery, shut down FSX and restart and go see.

Often this works. Sometimes it does not. Please help

I go back to work folder and check inf file. All looks proper two sources, same file name tif is correct with _B.tif. This is of course called photo.inf

For those who have read but not replied. No one had an answer? :) Oh well. In SBX, when doing your map and you draw a red square around the area you want? Then you choose one of the circles to the right and check it. I always checked the bottom one. checking ones further up evidently gives you a better LOD.

If the lowest one does not produce results, go to the next one, and so on.

Recently I chose one and found my map flickering in and out. I then redid the map, choosing the next higher up circle. Bingo! a Good photoreal map, nice and solid.

Bob (Now how to do seasons.)

Fsx often locks folder contents while it is running.

More consistent results will come from compiling and placing the bgl in an active folder when FSX is completely shut down

Is the name of the map "map(something)" or "photo(something)"? if you go to property's of the map in sbuilder, it should be photo something. That's all i can think of at this point.

Yep- It usually turns out as phot01. After all is done I usually change the name but I might do something like photo_myfile.bgl. It can be anything, but I like to keep the word photo in there so if I'm trouble shooting, it's easier to remember that this is the photo shot and not some other file.

In SbuilderX I know it's available to add the bmp with _w, _sp_ etc for seasons, but do I have to do each bmp with my own color changes? wouldn't SbuilderX or FSX do that automatically if I include the _W, or _sp.bmp? Bob

I believe you have to do manual changes for each one, so you can tell it exactly what you want it to display instead, lots of work, but whatever. When I've been placing maps from disk, I have had to rename them from "mapsomething" to "photosomething". That's why i asked.
