• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Phototextures blend into FS default?

Hi,
i have got a problem using phototextures with the default Fs textures.
I red many threads here to find a solution but the most are "talking" about the alphachannel and gradients.

Is it possible to blend my photoedges into the default textures? I'm working with terrabuilder and it must be 24bit BMP's. So, how can i use alphachannels with an 24bit picture?!

Can anybody help me?

Bernd

please let me know what sim version you are designing for. It makes a huge difference in the answer to this question.

i'm working with the Fs2004.
I know that it is much easier to realize with the new FSx, isn't it?!
thanks a lot for answers

Bernd

Hi Devon,

I think people have found other ways to do this in fs2004 than my way, but here's my way.

I take screen shots of the default, and screenshots of the new photoreal. Now if your doing a huge area, then you need to do this in pieces.

Hopefully you have photoshop, or one of the other graphics programs with layers.

In the graphics program, make seperate layers out of your real source image, the screenshot of the photoreal, and the screenshot of the default. Scale the screenshot of the photoreal until it matches the source image. Use the identical scaling of the default. Now hide the screenshot of the photoreal. I then carve out sections of the source image using selection tools with feathering along artistic lines to "expose" the underlying default.

Finally when done, I flatten the whole kitand kaboodle and then submit that result as your new source image.

Make sense?

Have fun,
Bob

thanks a lot for your solution, but is it possible at all, to work with alphachannels to realize textureblend in fs2004?

Devon, alpha channel is reserved to display as water in fs2004. Only way to use alpha channel is to display imagry on a polygon added to fs2004 as a 3d object, in that application, alpha channel content controls transparency.

If you use VTP polygons to place them the alpha channel will also become transparancy. But this method has the downside that small gaps are visible between the different tiles.
