• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Pilot Animation

I've created a pilot and skinned him using Max default bones, he shows up posed in FSX but does not animate. I made sure he has a skinned material on him.

Am I missing something really important?

Thanks,

Brian:o

Did you animate the pilot in MAx?

What animation tags did you assign?

Basically, your indicated steps are:

Created pilot

assigned bones

Exported to FS-X

I, for one, am going to read literally your steps, and not assumed that you animated and assigned animation tags in Max before exporting.

Steps

I did this:

- Created mesh for pilot in Max
- Texture-mapped pilot making sure to turn check [skinned material]
- Created skeleton for pilot with Max bones
- Used Physique to bind mesh to skeleton
- Posed pilot and set him in the airplane
- Attached [lever_stick_l_r] to neck bone so pilot would turn head with turns (0-100)

Pose comes over into FSX fine so I know that the skeleton is controling the mesh just fine but my animation isn't working.

There is a checkbox in the export popup that also needs to be checked, it reads skinned mesh like in the material editor, also if the advanced animations box in FSX /display is unchecked your animations wont work.

Thanks!

Thanks Chuck, that was it. The advanced anmations checkbox.

It was working all the time but I just wasn't seing them because of that.

Brian
