• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Polygon placement

Hello guys,

I've finally managed to create my 1st ground poly BGL file, using the latest ModelConverterX release.

My problem and my question is: How do I place this poly where I want? It is now in my project scenery folder, but I have no idea on where it has actually appeared in FSX!!

Regards,

Peter

Im just producing Gpolys aswell.

The way i do it is produce the ground poly in google sketchup, using a georeferenced background. That way when i export my gpoly from sketchup to MCX i have coordinates that relate to the location i am concerned with.

These coordinates are then transferred to my BGL file once i convert it.

I believe that the gpoly wizard in MCX allows you to edit the default coordinates associated with your source file. That way you can find the coordinates of your scenery and type them in to ensure your gpoly is located in the right place.

The coordinates relate to the red crosshair seen in MCX so essentially you need to work out the position of that somehow.

Going back to sketchup - when you export a KMZ file the coordinates go with it so its all automated, but i presume other methods would require you to work them out and type them manually.

Thanks for the help corkyo.

The problem is that I'm using gmax instead of Sketchup!

Can I somehow do the same in gmax?

Hi,

When converting them with ModelConverterX you need to enter the coordinates where you want them to appear.

How to find these coordinates can be hard. Your best guess is probably to use a known point as reference point in GMax, for example the ARP or the threshold of a runway.

Thank you so much Arno.

I will try this!
