• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Problem Exporting a static aircraft

I downloaded some static aircraft, and would like to place them on the ramp in the new airport I have built. The instructions said to open the aircraft in GMax, then export to the scenery file of the desired airport. When I did this, after clicking Export, and naming the file as c130_01.bgl, GMax said it did not know how to save in this format.(See attached) What am I doing wrong? And also there was supposed to be a place to enter LAT/LONG, but I never got that far

Are you using the FS2004 GMAX toolkit? If so, then you should know that there were a number of changes from the FS2002 version, which you may have used before. To start with, we don't export directly to a .BGL file anymore - we create a .MDL file, which we call using an .XML file. The .XML file is run through BGLComp.exe, and we get our BGL file. For this same reason, makemdl.exe doesn't stay open anymore, since we don't place the lat/long here anymore - these go in the .XML file.

You can do this by selecting "Flightsim Scenery Object (*.MDL)" when you export, and don't try to force it to become a BGL file when you are exporting.

I know these changes might seem a bit frustrating, especially if you have to go back and re-learn some things, but I think it's a little bit better this way, especially if you are adding many objects repeatedly (like static aircraft).
