• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Problem transparency

Hello all
I hope you'll cam help me :)

I've a problem with an object.
The two screens show it.
in the foreground there are transparent textures and behind opaque textures.
The problem is that the decor appear through them.
The banister (in front) is made with two planes with transparency (the normales are ok).
The structure behind is made with normal textures (without transparency)
Have you an idea about this visual problem ?

Thank you for your help !

Luc

Hi Luc,

I recognise something of your problem, but I only have something similar with consecutive transparent materials behind each other. So I'm not sure if that's the same. It probably helps when someone with experience on this kind of textures will advice. Probably something with Z-alpha or anything like that?

Daan

Thank you Daan for your answer
Maybe upstairs, second picture, with the windows, there are two consecutive transparent materials...(Is there a solution in this case ?)
But at the bottom of the building, there is no transparent texture behind the stairs .... It's a simple wall ...
Strange ...

Which is your alpha test value of these railings? Increasing ist may reduce that effect

Also is that wall really set opaque (source blend = one, destination blend = zero)?

Thx Dave :)

Yes, the wall is really opaque, source blend = one, destination blend = zero
For your first question, Alpha Test Level for Z-Test Alpha is 0 (Test Mode Greater)

Is "Z test alpha" on?
And what happens when you increase the z-Test level to let's say128?

Yes Dave
The Z tzst Alpha is on
If I set the value to 128, it's better. The problem is always here but much less visible !

set it even higher then ;)

BTW I still wonder why the solid wall is affected anyway. Although the material is set opaque, does the texture have an alpha channel?

The texture of the wall (without transparency) and the texture of the ramp (with transparency) are on the same textures map.
Maybe its the problem ?
Maybe I must create two different maps

OK, now the limit of my knowledge is reached. I know that this masking happens when the alpha channel of a texture is used, may it be reflection blending or transparency.
But I'm not sure what happens if an alpha channel is there but not used.

The least work to find that out would probably be to make a copy of the texture map and remove the alpha channel from that copy.
Then link the wall material to the non alpha copy.

I'm curious mayself how this turns out :)

Ok thank you very much Dave for this precious help
Tomorrow, I will make the try and come back to tell you what is the result :)
Luc

Hi Luc,

I have used this setting for a conflict of transparency
maybe it works for you
