• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

Problem with texture bake

I am in the process of baking textures and have run into a problem.
Everything has gone well with all parts baked and showing as they should in the sim.
That is until I get to the wings.
I modelled the right wing, hit the duplicate button, mirror button and set position then CTRL_J to join.
Everything looks OK up to the point where the part is showing in UV/Image Editor and the wings face has turned black but I hit the bake button and a message saying “no object or image found to bake to”
The bake settings are the same as with other parts.
I wish I could work out what I’m doing wrong!
Hopefully someone can tell me.
I discarded the first set of wings hoping that the problem would go away but still the same with second set.

A few things we should know here:
First, how did you mirror? Did you use Ctrl + M or did you use a mirror modifier?

Secondly, do you bake in blender render on in cycles render mode?

And thirdly are the wingspositions on the unwrap identical or is the second wing put in a different position from the first one?

Thanks for the reply F747fly,
Ctrl+M, Blender render, totally different position second time, much better layout.

Rob

Ctrl + M is the problem, it inverts in the export. You'll be better of using the mirror modifier instead, apply it with a centred origin, unwrap it and bake again, should turn out fine then ;)

Thank you very much for your help F747fly,
That was the problem exactly, had to go back to my first very first backup with original wing and the side that was not a mirror baked OK, the other mirrored side did not.
Thanks again, another thing learned!
