• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi everybody,

today I think it is a good day to thank all the kind developpers here around for help and support during my first year inside FSX. Sometimes, it was strange to see how different FSX could be as compared with FS9.
I had to learn how to get and place proper backgrounds, proper handling with all necessary programmes like ModelConverterX, ADE, LibraryCreator, ImageTool and many more. I annoyed you with lots of questions for a long time.
Briefly worded, without all your help and the help of these valuable freewares all my airport memories never could have been come into life.
So, today I want to show you some results of your help and hope progress will go on that way. Thank you!

Okay, guys, today I want to show you the progress regarding the ground polygons. As is well known, I (want) (have to) replace the photo ground because of current existing regulations in Germany.
First of all, here are some shots that show the appearance and behaviour of the different grass polygon layers. Now you get a better and more blurred surface from higher distance but at the same time a more real surface on the ground.

It's looking great! Loving the details. Can I ask what is the regulation in Germany that's forcing you to replace the photo ground? I'm not familiar with regulations in Germany.

Thank you all for your kind recognition :)

@ Hector Lee: Regarding german regulation: Over here in Germany, we are living in a legal limbo, means, almost everything here is legally arranged. That way, using pics from Germany is not clearly permitted by several federal agencies, depending on their regulations. That's weird in fact. So many of us are using the GoogleEarth layers, and I think there will be no problems at all because of the minor interest in our hobby (by government...). Except for german payware provider e. g. Aerosoft which mostly uses drawn ground layers in fact because of commercial use.
So on the other hand I am always disappointed by the awful resolution while moving on the ground of photo real airports. Because of my ineptitude to fly :rotfl: , most of the time I spend on airports - on the ground...LOL....

Therefore, it takes a lot of time to release an airport like my imagination. Those days, when we released RAF Gütersloh for FS9, we needed about two years to finish it. Pete Beeby did a fantastic work on it with his skills in that real looking ground polygons. Meanwhile, he is an artist in ground polygons. Now to rework them, it is even a challenge to make it as best as possible for FSX...

Today, I want to show you some more screenies from the ground - several materials and layers that imply that is also "photo real" when you are moving on the ground....hopefully :stirthepo

Very good work. Keep on going. It looks really nice.
Try to "unsharp" the edges of the buildings and the groundpolys, so that it looks more "used".
Nice nice...

Thank you. Yes, unsharpen the buildings edges is on my to-do-list. Textures has still been taken over from the FS9 version, so shadows have to be add.... Asphalt edges are still WIP, they will get some more overlays

Cobblestones are quite unusual at airports and in FS, very nice!

Thank you, Roel. The cobblestones are part of the maintenance area for using by vehicles. Here a few more of the various ground textures (parts will get some fine tuning indeed...):

Okay, after a while today some few more impressions of the RAF Gutersloh progress.
Runway and taxiway edges now more used looking by battered grass...

...and work at the ground markings has been started...

I love the AI traffic out there as we; as real as it gets!

Amazing work Manfred!
Cheers,
Sergio.

Thank you all.

@ Ripcord:
There will be enough parking spots for sure...

@ Alex:
All textures are freeware textures, mostly found at "CG textures".
