• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Removing Objects From Static Model

Hi,
I'm adding some freeware Rosenbauer V02 fire trucks to my scenery but they come with a man and a woman in front of it (image 1). Is there a chance I can remove them when making the BGL file? Or can I compile the BGL file in a "flyable" position or "engines on" (image 2)? This way they appear inside the cabin and not out.
Thanks,
Joe.

Thanks Sebastian, but I "tried" that earlier. To my knowledge if you make transparent textures the model will still exist but without the textures on top. I imagine that I would have the "same" effect if I deleted or changed the BMP associated with the model. I know SAMMs basic procedures but beyond that I'm clueless. The only thing I can think of would be an additional parameter giving me a choice to display the static model in an "engines on" position, like the second image attached above.
Anyway, thanks for your answer.
Cheers,
Joe.

That's true, but so long as you don't see the things you want to be invisible, why do you care?

I see no reason why Sebastian's suggestion wouldn't work.

Ok, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Please tell me if this is the correct procedure: I loaded the fire truck and clicked the TEXTURE EDITOR button. I know that the BMP file is called CREW.BMP. I adjusted the slider FALLBACK COLOR ALPHA to 0 (zero). USE and Mipmaps options were checked. Clicked SAVE EDITS button and closed the Texture Editor window.

Thanks,
Joe.

You could open the crew texture with dxtbmp, add a completely black alpha channel to it, and save it as dxt1 + alpha, either as bmp or dds. If you save it as dds you will need to reassign the texture with ModelconverterX. This gives you a completely transparent texture - I've done this a lot of times with aircraft.

If there is no intrinsic function in the model that makes the crew optional you won't be able to remove them with SAMM, as far as my understanding goes.
They are a fixed part of the 3D model.

Cheers,
Mark
