FSX repainting FsInsider Cessna

Hi Folks,

i just want to repaint the Virtual Cockpit. i just started with it, and stumbled upon some questions.

1. i did changed the texture-size from 1024 to 2048px. simply by changing it in ps. is this common, or are there some tricks to change the texture size for more sharpness?

2. of course, after resizing, i put some new graphic/texture layers to my cockpit. even text. but: this text is still not good readable, looks blurry. do i have to change the texture size to its maximum, 4096?

thanks in advance!

No, your approach is fairly logical. On your 2048 sheet is your reworked lettering well visible? If yes, then it should show up fine in sim.

Which format do you save it in though? Not dxt3 bmp hopefully. Try no-mips dxt1 dds without alpha, that's usually fine for cockpit textures. Also check which format the original files are, mixing formats is rarely a good idea.

in ps the lettering looks fine, in fsx its blurry at 2048. thatswhy i thougth i should increas the resolution.

i am using .dds files, as the original. saved as dxt5, without alphas and mipmaps. will try the dxt1 option next time.

Definitely shouldn't look blurry. You are sure the sim is loading your texture? Give it an individual mark such as a color patch so that you know it does. Dxt1 isn't any better than dxt5 but when you are not using the alpha it is much smaller in terms of bytes, hence loads faster etc.

Possible other causes .. done anything to max_texture_size? Editing from within DxtBmp? Compare whether the .dds is more blurry than the original you are creating it from.
