• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Resampling large scenery files.

Hi,

I am in the process of creating a large hi res photo terrain area (approx 5000 sq kilometres) and need some advise how best to resample such a large area.
Currently I have 400 photos at 40 meg each and I am not sure how big a tile area FSX will cope with at 1.2 metre/pixel res. Does anyone know of a way that I can do multi resamples of adjacent scenery photos as it seems a bit of a mission to put in the coordinates of 400 photos and resample them one at a time?

Also if I am doing 2 resolution layers (4.75 and 1.2 metre/pixel), if I enter those resolutions in the .INI file, am I right in thinking that the resample program will make the necessary adjustments to the photo scenery automatically?

kind regards Peter.

Hi Peter,

You could put them all in one INF file, so then you only need to resample once. I tried this (with only 6 files) and it works fine. Of course you still need to enter all the position information, unless they are GeoTIFF files.

As you have a big area, you will also have to tell FS that it needs to create different BGL files to each tile. The total size of a BGL file can not be above 2 GB.

What do you mean with resampling them in two resolutions? In FsX the user can just reduce the resolution by adjusting the slider in his options. So I don't see the need to make a 4.8 as well, if you already have the 1.2 version.
