• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Runway lighting help

Hi all, in order to create runway lighting which switches off during the day do I need to use the FS2004 Gamepack and export to .mdl or can I use the FS2002 Gamepack. I've tried the FS2002 Gamepack but MDL Tweaker II wont open the resulting MDL file giving a code 100 error (This is not a valid RIFF MDL Scenery file) The lights display ok however. I just want to modify the asm files so that they switch off during the day. I've searched the forums but links to tutorials and other threads are broken whilst other threads just contain lines of code with no before/after screenshots. Do I need to change both asm files and what do I need to add/change. I've been trying to get this to work all day but to no avail. I hope someone can help.

Hi Terry,

You can use both of these gamepacks. For the FS2002 one you export directly as BGL file, so MDL Tweaker can indeed not perform the tweaks. You will have to do it manually in the ASM files. For the FS2004 gamepack you could use MDL Tweaker to perform them.

Is there a tutorial for tweaking runway lights with 2004 gamepack (3dsMax)?
Before SP2 I used effetcs, but since all effects are now bothsided this won't work anymore.

Couldn't find a thread here, from which I could (finally) learn how to tweak. :o

EDIT: Should mention this is supposed to be for FSX of course. :)

Hi Thorsten,

Check the PAPI tutorial that is on the Wiki. You can use the same technique for runway lights as well. Not sure if this is easy with 3DS though, the FS2004 gamepack works better with GMax I think.

Thanks, Arno. I guess getting the asm-file would be the first problem...
I'll take a look into it and report on success.
