• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Runway Location wrong and texture help needed!

Hello,
I started today with the tutorial of Bill Womack about the ground poly. I thought this was for FS2004 (FS9), but maybe I am wrong....

Anyway, in Gmax I made the runway using the Plane tool. I assigned a bitmap to it and exported it using the FS2002 SDK Gamepack. At the tab of the scenery you have to fill in the coordinates of the runway. I used AED for getting the coordinates and the heading (image 1).

I past those coordinates in the MakeMDL (FS2002) and it successfully exported my model. Then I went tweaking the ASM files and came to the conclusion that I don't have to delete my BGL file before editing it! After I tweaked both ASM files I put them in the Addon Scenery/Scenery folder. I start FS and go to my airport and see that my runway is a bit to the left of the position that is displayed in AED (image 2).

Did I do something wrong? I already took a look at the coordinates, using W instead of E, but that is not the problem. This is my first problem anyway:D

My second problem is the texture. I Gmax I put the texture on the runway, exported the model, but when I converted the BMP file in Imagetools I sometimes get the error that it is not responding..... but when it finished converting it (converting using Create Mipmaps and DXT1 (what is the difference between DXT1 and DXT3?:o) I place the texture in the Addon Scenery/Texture folder. Starting FS but the texture ain't visible!

Am I doing something wrong? I just started with all of this:p

Hi,

Are you sure that you put the origin in GMax in the middle of your runway? That is the position you define the lat/lon of. Else the coordinates should work fine.

About the textures. If they fail to convert, check the size. In FS they need to be a power of 2 (so 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024, 512x1024, etc).

The different between DXT1 and DXT3 is the alpha channel. If you are using different levels of transparency you need DXT3, else DXT1 should be fine.

Seems you posted this twice, this thread is more active.
