• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SAMM and FSX

I've been using SAMM for a while, and I like it very much, it's very useful. Recently I have been converting some FSX ships (airplane files) for use in FS9, initially with success but the last library I created seems to be a problem. After importing the library into ADE and adding objects to an ADE file, the sim 'hangs' when I load the location. Do you have any suggestions?

At what point does the sim "hang"? Are there any messages/other indications as to what is going on at the time? Does the sim continue to hang when you remove the library (i.e., are you sure SAMM is the problem.)? If it does, then I suggest you place each converted aircraft individually - anywhere - using SAMM's built-in placement facility - to see which one causes the problem.

Once you've identified the culprit, the easiest thing to do is find another model to convert. But (I'd like to be informed of the details and get a link to (or send me) the aircraft so I can investigate further.

I selected the location, and it loaded to, typically, 77% or thereabouts, then just sits at that point; there are no messages or reported errors. I removed the library and all was well.

I'd previously created libraries for Russian missile boats, and for submarines (both from Erwin Welker), and they're perfect. Then I tried some 'civilians', and the problems started. What I've now realised is that the 'good' ones were original models, whereas the problems are occurring with pilotable versions that Erwin has created from AI models that were previously made by others. I lack technical knowledge, but this is a consistent difference between successful and not...is there a workaround?

When you first mentioned "FSX ships (aircraft files)", I didn't appreciate you were referring to boats. Nonetheless, you are still "speaking" in generalities. Have you tries viewing the converted model in the viewer. If it's not a valid scenery model, the viewer will complain.

If the viewer shows the model correctly, if you send me an aircraft folder holding the boat, I'll attempt to determine what is the problem.

Why not convert the AI model from which the pilotable model was created?

Maybe generalities to you, but they describe the situation within the limits of my understanding. All the models converted without problems, and yes, they all looked good in the viewer.

If I can locate the AI models I'll try converting those. I'd assumed, probably wrongly, that they were boats in the FSX sense, with a different file structure. As I mentioned, no technical knowledge..
