• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SAMM Help Please

Hello All,
I have a problem with SAMM that I would appreciate some help with.
As I am totally new to SAMM I suspect my problem is blindingly obvious to a 'SAMM expert'.
I will try to be brief.
I am running Windows7, FSX with Acceleration, on a 64bit PC.
SAMM installed in its own SAMM2202 folder. SDK is in the same folder.
I am not trying to do anything complex - just to put a static C172 on a specific FSX airfield.
I have created a folder in AddOn Scenery for the airfield ready for the scenery.
When I run SAMM [as administrator] all seems to go well.
Static Aircraft Library is the usual SimObjects/Airplanes, aircraft is C172, and I chose the 'Paint2 Option'.
Nothing else entered on that Page so I click the 'Save .mdl File' box.
Alerted that one texture is not found.
Confirmation of saved .mdl received.
HOWEVER 'Models/FSX' folder only has an empty 'Textures_SAMM;All' folder.
Nothing in Libraries, or Listings Folders.
BUT in 'Work/texture' folder are 'Cessna Skyhawk 172P Paint2' and 'Cessna Skyhawk 172SP Paint2;All' folders.
No sign of a .mdl anywhere even though I had a positive response to the 'save .mdl File' button.
As everything seemed good I moved on to the 'Place the Model' screen, entered the coordinates, and compiled the scenery, pointing it to the previously created 'Addon Scenery folder' for the specific airfield.
Back to FSX settings, add the new scenery folder, all still looks OK but alas NO C172 at the airfield.
Checking back, the AddON Scenery folder has the expected .bgl file in scenery and a host of .DDS files in texture folder but they dont show at teh airfield.
Can anyone tell me please what stupid mistake I am making ?
Thanks.

I have some progress.
I misunderstood what the entry for 'Static Aircraft Library' should be.
I have amended this to the SAMM folder and I am now getting .mdl files in Model/FSX.
However I still dont see any static airplane where it should be.
What about the Lat/Long data ?
Maybe the airplane is indeed being shown but not where I think it should be ?
FSX shows the Lat/Long [shift+z] in the form of nn nn.nn
Presumably say 5 degrees 16.32 minutes would be written in SAMM as 05 16.32 and not 5 16.32 ?
Any thoughts anybody ?

Static Aircraft Library is the usual SimObjects/Airplanes, aircraft is C172, and I chose the 'Paint2 Option'.
The Static Aircraft Library is a set of folders SAMM will create to hold a collection of static models and associated files. If you look in your SimObjects folder you'll find a set of SAMM-created folders and your static model will be in one named Models\FSX. If you want to use your SAMM folders as your Static Aircraft Library, leave this field blank.

compiled the scenery, pointing it to the previously created 'Addon Scenery folder' for the specific airfield.
I suspect you'll find your static model .bgl in Addon Scenery\scenery or in your Addon Scenery folder but outside the \scenery subfolder. You should "point" to the \scenery subfolder into which you want the static model .bgl to be saved.

Thanks Don although I still dont have a solution.
I am using a small UK airport [Truro EGHY] for my 'SAMM Testing'.
I created a specific sub folder within AddOn Scenery called 'Truro' and pointed SAMM to that folder.
SAMM created 2 sub-folders within AddOn Scenery/Truro - /scenery and /texture.
Addon Scenery/Truro/scenery has Cessna Skyhawk 172SP G1000.bgl within it.
Addon Scenery/Truro/texture has a sub-folder called Cessna Skyhawk 172SP G1000 that contains seven .DDS files
I have 'added' the Truro 'Area' successfully in the FSX scenery library.
My FSX scenery complexity is higher than SAMM's.
I guess its because SAMM seems to be working so well that I must have made an 'obvious error' somewhere.
One other point - maybe a stupid question !
In the 'Place Static Model' dialog box, if the airfield itself is say 300 feet above MSL, would I be right in assuming that I should be entering that figure in the Altitude box or does SAMM automatically place static models at whatever the ground level altitude is as derived from the Lat/Long input figures ?
Thanks again Don - sorry to be such a pain but SAMM looks to be a really great piece of software.

ALL SORTED !!
My problem was that 'Place Static Model' dialog box.
When I entered the required altitude above MSL and unticked the 'Alt is AGL' box all was revealed.
Thanks again everyone but no doubt further questions will follow in a while !
