FSXA scenery.cfg ERROR!

Hello,

lately I've been getting this message when I open FSX (see screen).
The problem is that I opened scenery.cfg and searched it from the beginning till the end and there is no Area.229 inside!
Searched the scenery.cfg in the FSX hidden folder, but still there is no Area.229 entry inside!
I even restored the original scenery.cfg from the acceleration DVD.

Any ideas? Everything works fine, but it's annoying getting this message every time.

Thanks,

Peter

Read the name of the mssing scenery entry, rather than its number

When you start FSX, use the scenery library to find the entry of that name ... then delete it.

FSX is looking for a folder that doesn;t exist (usually because you deleted it)

I checked again, and everything in the scenery library of my fsx is exactly what I'm using! Is it a ghost scenery anywhere? :D
Checked the scenery.cfg again, and it looks like:

[General]
Title=FS9 World Scenery
Description=FS9 Scenery Data
Clean_on_Exit=TRUE
.
.
.
.
.
.
[Area.120]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=Addon Scenery
Layer=120
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

Also, I run a repair of FSX-Acceleration but the same thing happens (I had guessed that!).
I can't understand what is wrong here. I usually install and uninstall sceneries with no problem.

What is the NAME of the Scenery area that produces the error (should be in the message)?

That will likely refer to an area that is missing (perhaps refers to a non-mounted or removable disc)

I doubt that scenery.cfg is corrupt.

Find the name and you'll find the culprit.

It doesn't refer to any name in the error message!
See the screen I've provided in the description.
I never used anything via a flash drive or any removable storage thing.
This is what confuses me.
It just says there is an "invalid remote scenery path".

Where on earth is this Area.229?
Are there any other scenery.cfg's that FSX reads?

:confused:

Start by looking at the Scenery.cfg in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX then search for [Area.229]

The Scenery.cfg in the FSX folder is a default backup.

:o

My bad! But David's suggestion is a good one. Remote scenery .... hmm.

Wow thanks! I didn't know that there was a 3d scenery.cfg in the house.
I found Area.229 but I'm afraid this is literally the end of FSX world if I delete it.....:D

[Area.229]
Title=FS9 World Scenery
Description=FS9 Scenery Data
Clean_on_Exit=TRUE
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=1

Any ideas on this?

P.S It would be a great help to me if you can provide me your scenery.CFG file man, so that I can manually make the necessary changes.

You've got a joining of the first lines of the FSX.Cfg and it makes me wonder how they got there?

Here's how it starts;

[General]
Title=FS9 World Scenery
Description=FS9 Scenery Data
Clean_on_Exit=TRUE

[Area.001]
Title=Default Terrain
Texture_ID=1
Local=Scenery\World
Layer=1
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

I'd suggest making a backup copy "just in case" and then delete that section from your file and go run FSX. It should be OK because the data that you are deleting doesn't have a path to any scenery location. Verify that your Cfg file starts with the lines posted above and you should be good to go.

I know and I'm afraid it's a scenery uninstaller that made this mess.
I'm repairing the file manually now, but it would be better if I just had a fully-working scenery.cfg file to copy some things from.

Thanks

You do, it's the file sitting as a backup "just in case" file in the main FSX installation folder. It doesn't contain any of the add on data, but that can be cut and pasted from the "working" file.

It doesn't hurt to get familiar with the Scenery.Cfg file, as you can then set up multiple copies to suit your tastes and just rename them as you need them. I have about 6, maybe more. But I don't consider myself to be hard core... :D

Exactly this is what I'm doing right now!
I deleted the corrupt scenery.cfg file, I copied the new one and added any addon sceneries I had manually.

Everything works smoothly again!

I owe you guys thanks!
