FSX Scenery objects as simobjects?

I ws looking at commercial addon from FS Dreamteam "PHNL" and see that they have setup their scenery objects as misc simobjects. I assume they do this so they have control over them using simconnect probably though their bglmanx.dll that you have to install with the scenery. I'm wondering what advantages there might be to doing scenery this way. I guess you could maybe have some run-time control over how the scenery is displayed. I take it it would be fairly easy to just place the scenery as AICreateSimobject and SIMCONNECT_DATA_INITPOSITION and be done with it.

Would there need to e any difference in the .mdl used for bglcomp scenery compared to simobject scenery?

Hi,

I think the mdl will be very similar. But by using simconnect you can probably trigger certain things (like animations) that you can't in a scenery. Another option you get is seasonal changes for example.
