• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Seasons

Following the suggestions received in this forum, I have realized a new file to correct the appearance of the seasons for Italy (after what I did for regions).
It is a very small package, and can be dowloaded from Avsim library, following this link:

Very, Very nice and much better for Italy. I guess Italia is not all totally brown and gray in winter, except maybe Trentino area.

What tool did you use to create the modified seasons bgl(s)? All it says in the SDK is that you can use TMFViewer to view the existing bgl. Well, that is nice but I would like to modify it. :)

Ah I see. I was hoping there was a better method.

I have read Christian Stock's document on this.
I will attempt to create 257 x 257 .raw file as well or whatever it is.

I do not quite know how to get resample to understand my indexed colors as invierno, autumno, etc.

Nor do I know how to get a global_XXX.bgl file to load as a background image so I know what I'm changing and where I'm changing it.

Hi Rhett,

the great thing about the FSX resample tool is that you don't need to use the 257x257 raw format anymore. Resample.exe will take many different input formats, including tiff, bmp, and tga, and they don't have to correspond to a LOD2 or LOD5 grid either. All the source data need to be is georegistered to the FS-native lat/long WGS84 system.

In other words, you can start with a map or satellite image in Photoshop or Paintshop, draw the desired season "polygons" onto a separate layer, and then save that layer coded from 0-4 to correspond with the seasons. Ideally you'd do this for each of the twelve months but you don't even need a full set to generate a valid seasons file.

If you don't have a suitable georeferenced map of your area you can always load FS9 terrain mesh plus roads or water bodies into Jim Keir's LWMViewer v.1(provided you still have a copy of FS9) and export that as a bmp, thus creating your own quick map. That export file will be in lat/long WGS84 and you can easily determine the NW corner coordinates and the image dimensions to build the inf file.

Good luck!

Cheers, Holger

Hi,

Following the suggestions received in this forum, I have realized a new file to correct the appearance of the seasons for Italy (after what I did for regions).

I hope that some clever ones could make the corrections for the most part of Europe, because this is not nice to look at. This is below all expectations.
I simply choose the "summer" season for now... it's the easiest way.
