• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello

I have some questions before starting my scenery's ground.

Regarding scenery SDKs, Do we need to have both gmax installed (fs2004 and fs2002) or can we install one Gmax with both gamepacks? As I read in this forum, fs2002 gamepack is a better choice for ground polys then fs2004's.

Is Gmax the best app to build textured ground? If not , wich is the best app to build it?

hope to post some pics of my project in a few days.:D

Regards.

On the gmax issue...

You can install several gamepacks in one gmax ...

Originally, the FS2002 "SDK" got installed into the gmax plugins folder.

With FS2004, a new folder was created "gamepacks" and the FS2004 SDK plugins, etc got installed into the "FS2004" folder. At the same time, there were instructions to set up an FS2002 "gamepack" folder.

The key is to set up the gmax starting icons with the right "properties" to activate the correct gamepack.

I got that, Thanks :D

If you are used to modelling in GMax, I think it is the best program to make your ground polygons with. Mainly because it gives you very good control over the texture mapping.

For really big airports you will have to be a bit careful to get the best performance (making everything in one GMax scene can then give trouble).

But I would say GMax is a good choice for ground polygons.
