• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SimConnect Limitations - (Memory?)

I'm sending aircraft updates from my ext. program at a rate of 4x per sec. The aircraft in FSX fly fine but only for approx. 25 min. Then all of my aircraft disappear, and the program resets. This time varies based on the number of aircraft I'm updating (i.e. ran approx. 40 mins when updating single aircraft).

Does anyone know of any limitations on the number of updates you can send FSX? Or if I have to clear memory or call some other function between updates? I'm using C++.

Thanks

SimConnect Limitations - (Memory Fix)

After looking through my code and reading a hand full of C++ memory leak tech docs (always fun). I was able to resolve this issue by changing my graphics/display settings to low..

Aircraft flying and receiving updates for over an hour!

I have a program that I wrote at work that rewrites the aircraft location and attitude at 50 times a second that runs indefinitely. I would humbly suggest that there's a problem with your code.

Thanks Si,

What are your graphics settings on, High?

I monitored the memory usage with the graphics settings both ways (high, low) using the same code base. When graphics were set to high usage increased until it eventually reached 100%. When set to low/med it only got up to 70% cpu usage.

I tested this @ 30hz as well..

Thoughts?

Thanks...

I run it on a Core2Quad Extreme with the graphics pretty much max'd out.

I only update the user aircraft though. Perhaps your specific issues are related to the number of aircraft you are updating. I guess if you're creating hundreds of AI SimObject instances then the system could run out of memory, depending on what FSX does memory-wise to handle each one.

With Graphics Maxed out, there is very little more one can do without hitting an OOM error. You need MORE virtual memory, and one way to easily do this is to us the 3GB switch.

Just increasing the virtual memory that FSX has from the default limit of 2GB, to 2.5GB, will allow FSX to support a lot more addons ( and your numerous AI aircraft ??).

FYI: I used to get OOM errors quite early into flights, when running addons like complex addon aircraft.
Since implimenting the 3GB switch, (using 2.5 GB,) I have NEVER had an OOM.
