• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SODE using FSDS

Hi,

I am probably rather dumb in this respect, but is FSDS compatible with SODE? In other words, has SODE thought about the FSDS crowd and how to use those scenery objects with SODE?
I can see a lot of references to 3DS, Blender, etc. but no references to FSDS or Gmax.
Tks,

Well, you need to be more precise: SODE in general or just the jetway design part?
In general, as long as your modelling tool spits out a mdl file, then SODE can use it for various applications (seasonal objects, etc).
For the jetway design part, to make life much easier, I have written a maxscript that basically does all the animation for you. This obviously only works for 3dsmax and gmax. Since SODE is a one-man show, I don't have the time and capability to learn another new scripting language like python (Blender) and also support FSDS. I don't even know if FSDS supports scripting.
In theory, it is of course possible to manually create and rig a jetway, just like you would do this for default CTRL+J jetways (IK-Jetways).

I'll leave the porting of my maxscripts to the scripting language for those other 3d modelling tools to the more knowledgeable people in the community that use those tools.

Brgds

I don't think FSDS supports skin and bone animations, so making a jetway in it would be out of the question already :). It also has no scripting, although you can make plugins for it.
